My first Basil Poledouris score was STARSHIP TROOPERS, and although it is a very good score, I didn't begin to appreciate how great a composer he was until I listened to some of his other scores. It seems, like other great film music composers, there is no genre Basil hasn't touched on. He has done very epic scores like CONAN, he has done western type scores, LONESOME DOVE. THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER and UNDER SIEGE 2 are great action scores, while FREE WILLY and QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER are more lighthearted. And best of all, the score I consider Basil's most Beautiful, LES MISERABLES.

What other Basil Poledouris scores are great? I have only been collecting his scores for a short time so I am sure he has many others that are must haves. How about his scores to ROBOCOP and ROBOCOP III? I may be interested in getting one or both of these if someone can tell me if they are good.

N.P. Red Dawn (another great score of Basil's)

Hi Audacity, you might like his "Jungle Book". There was also another one I have been looking for "Wind", I saw the movie and the music was great. I have just not been able to find it, might be out of print.

    ED,

I have the Jungle Book and really like the music in it as well. From my understanding WIND is very hard to find, I have seen it for sale for upwards of $150 dollars. I like Basil but not that much. Maybe you could find someone who will sell you a copy of it for around twenty or so. Good Luck finding it.

"RoboCop" is a great action score. Some other good action scores by Poledouris are "On Deadly Ground" and "Hot Shots Part Deux".

A must have is Conan the Barbarian. It is one of the best scores ever. Poledouris is so under rated it is sad. He deserves more recognition then he gets!

    Some more goodies:
    "Lonesome Dove": great main theme
"It's My Party": that one features just Basil and his piano; it hasn't to be loud action stuff all the time
"On Deadly Ground", "Farewell to the king" & "Cherry 2000": very entertaining action scores

Besides those mentioned above, check out Lassie. It's a beautifully written, thematically strong score; yet contains the Poledouris touch.
