I've heard some very romantic scores such as Romeo and Juliet, Titanic, Shakespeare in Love. Romeo & Juliet by nino rota being my favorite. But i was wondering what other people thought. so, tell me about YOUR most favorite Romantic scores and the composer. Thanks!

Titanic and Shakespeare in Love are really romantic scores, but i'd also add Little Women and Great Expecations to that list.

While it may not be wholly a romantic film, like "Shakespeare in Love," I think that some of the music from "Life is Beautiful" is somewhat romantic. I think a lot of it is being able to relate "romantic" scenes from the film to the soundtrack while it's playing.

Also, Williams' "Sabrina" (I think) is quite good.

Dangerous Beauty by Fenton is definitely a must have for romanticists. IMO absolutely beautiful. Some others I like are:

    Sense & Sensiblity
    Little Women
    IL Postino
    Somewhere in Time

    NP Alive

Well, romatic scores are not really my favorite genre, but of the top of my head, I think that there is some very romantic and haunting music in Bernard Herrmannīs "Vertigo", and (you may find me a bit odd for saying this) but I actually think that "Dick Tracy" by Danny Elfman has some very romantic music in it also. Especially "BreathlessīTheme" and "TessīTheme".

John Barry has written the MOST romantic (and sad) film music I've ever heard. His best love themes:

    The Scarlett Letter- Love Scene
    My Life- Main Title
    Out of Africa- End Title
High Road to China- Love Theme

Harry Gregson-Williams' work in Armageddon, and The Whole Wide World is also pretty good too.

    Have a nice day!

NP- Regarding Henry (Zimmer)- Henry VS Henry

I have to agree with all of you that Titanic, Armageddon and Legends of the Fall contain romantic scores. But I wish to add in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman by Jay Gruska. Gruska did a wonderful job in composing the love themes for this soundtrack. It instantly gives me the romantic feeling whenever I listen to it.

I know its not exactly "topical" but the score to "Casablanca" has to be one of the most romantic esp. final scene at the airport. Gae

Try these scores, they are great!
In Love And War (George Fenton)
    Ever After (George Fenton)
The Prince Of Tides (James Newton Howard)
    The Scarlet Letter (John Barry)
    Rich In Love (Georges Delerue)
    A Summer Story (Georges Delerue)
    London Sessions, 1 2 3 (Georges Delerue)
a lot of other Delerue scores...

This isn't really a film score but the piece is from the movie Les Parapluies De Cherbourg (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg). It's called I Will Wait For You and it's by Michel Legrand. The cd it is on The Warm Shade of Memory by Michel Legrand Trio. It also contains music from other movies that Legrand has scored including Summer of '42. Very romantic IMO.

    My two favorites:

    Ever After [George Fenton]
    Not Since Casanova [John Debney]

I'm sure many people are familiar with Ever After, but Not Since Casanova is a little-known romantic Debney score with two beautiful love themes which receive masterful variations throughout the score. I also like the theme from Nino Rota's Romeo & Juliet, and although I haven't heard the whole score, it's on my list of scores to acquire.

    NP - TOMBSTONE (Bruce Broughton)

Young to middle aged to older. All sorts are here.

My favorite romantic theme is Barry's Robin and Marian. Hope the full score is produced some day. Also enjoy the love theme from Howard's Dying Young.

NP Out of Africa: The Classic John Barry

Romantic scores are not my favorite as well, but I do have some favorites such as Braveheart, and Legends of the Fall. I also think that Titanic is very good. Another romantic score that is excellent, and that I picked up because he is my favorite composer right now (which means he is still composing music today that I enjoy), is Oscar and Lucinda by Thomas Newman. A very excellent score.
