yes it is worth getting.

Jim's New Life, Exultate Justi, Suo Gan, and Cadillac of the Skies make it worth your money.

Aside from these, I seem to recall that it is fairly atmospheric and dissonant.

It's a rather drawn out effort with a mish mash of textures (grand orchestral, percussive, etc) that don't really gel very well. It's the sort of CD you just end up skipping to the 'better' parts (as you see them). As for Exultate Justi for boys choir, its a fair bit too bouyant for my taste...perhaps if Williams had chosen to write it in another key, perhaps one less sacchrine.

What did we say about Williams and Goldsmith scores? Get it!

I'm not too fond of "Suo Gan", either, and some of the tracks on the CD are not THAT great, right. But Cadillac Of The Skies and Exsultate Justi alone are easily worth the price for the album.

Well I like the song. Yet it is not an original John Williams composition. It is actually a traditional Welsh song. (Don't know why it doesn't mentioned that on the cd)
As far as the rest of the score...well...it's Johnny...

SPOR2:

My feelings exactly. "Cadillac of the Skies" is the highlight of the whole album. Too bad it comes so early in the album because there's not much afterwards.

With 1987 came THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK, an underrated masterpiece by Williams, and EMPIRE OF THE SUN, a terrific hodge-podge of a score that features some of Williams' most exquisitely beautiful writing - just breathtakingly lyrical material throughout; two powerhouse action setpieces, and then some. It's a score I simply never tire of listening to. Both scores received more than worthy Oscar nominations. From what I've seen in stores, it doesn't run more than $11.99 at most places; it's unquestionably worth getting.

"Cadillac of the Skies" is gorgeous. It's one of the highlights of Williams scores. That's the Williams piece that should make the album worth buying. The other is a beautiful boy's choir piece that he did not compose. It plays during the finale of the movie.

There was SOME discussion over at the 'other' board about Empire. Anyway, "Cadillac" is indeed a breathtaking cue but its offshoot later in the film, which I'll call "I Can Bring Everyone Back", is to me a seminal Williams moment, besides being one of the greatest film choral pieces ever. Abominable, UNCONSCIONABLE disgrace that it's not on the album/CD.

Al,

the piece appeared also at the very beginning of the movie.

Underated movie and score. I for one can,t
separate the two very well so when I play the
movie I play the score afterwards. It makes
playing the score more enjoyable and I don,t
mind playing everything.

Right Scott, and the kid performs it in a boy's choir during that scene. I just remembered that. It's been quite a while.
