You guys are going to love this.

Turner Classic Movies will be showing The Wizard of Oz commercial free on July 3 at 11pm Eastern.

Why is this unique? They will be simultaneously be broadcasting the Dark Side of the Moon album by Pink Floyd. For those of you who don't know, there is an urban legend that if you listen to the album while watching the movie, things line up. (i.e. when Roger sings "up", the witch goes upstairs and so on.)

    I plan to tape it.

Oh, that's cool. I've been meaning to try to view it as such. Ironically, I was reading in a book of urban legends about this, and the guy said that it's pretty darn close. Too close for coincidence anyway. The only problem is, "Dark Side of the Moon" ends about half way through the movie. What then?

If memory serves me though, didn't somebody on this board try it a long time ago and report the results? Maybe even when we were over at movietunes. Oops. Did I just break taboo?

Uh oh. I don't think I get TCM. Noooooooooooo!

So, this album is playing simultaneously with the film? So you see the film but hear the songs?

I won't get to see it, but as progresive rock albums go, you don't det much better than Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon....Is there any track that comes close to the orgasmically ecstactic 'great gig in the sky' for orgasmically ecsta....oh c'mon y' know what I'm saying!

Is it TCM broadcasting the Pink Floyd album, or is it a local radio station? Just wanted to clear this up.

Also, have you guys tried using Pink Floyd's "Echoes" from Meddle with The Jupiter Sequence in 2001? It's very cool!

NP---Heat ("God Moving Over The Face Of The Waters" by Moby....damn this is good)

    Shaun and dantoris:

It's not a radio station, it's the cable network Turner Classic Movies and they are playing both the movie and the album at the same time. Sorry if that was unclear. BTW, I have heard that the record ends with 45 minutes into the movie because you just couldn't make records that long at the time. After that, I guess it's just Wizard of Oz as usual.

    Hey J,
I'm aware that Turner Classic Movies is a cable network (Spartacus on tomorrow or Saturday...after that, Paths Of Glory....guess who's playing shut-in?), just didn't know if TCM was playing the film and a nearby radio station would be synching up Dark Side to it. Now it's clear. Awesome! I guess I'll just tune in and see what happens! Probably have to flip to SAP, right?

After the 45 minute mark you have to play the WHITE album backwards at regular speed. Supposedly you here Dorothy say she hates her life and blames Aunty Em for her parents death and also a wierd series of sounds between the Wicked Witch and one of her monkeys. Its great!!

    "Oh what a world!"

The "Wizard of Oz" synched with "Dark Side of the Moon" is a pleasurable experience, especially if you like Pink Floyd.

There are several coincidences...including a track with thumps (like heartbeats) that coincides with a Tin Woodman scene.

To the best of my recollection, you can do this yourself by starting the Floyd album at the beginning of Leo the Lion's third roar (or, just after his second roar) at the start of the film.

I read about that, but I didn't know about Wizard of Oz. So, does the "Echoes" track fit BOTH movies, or what?

I did the Dark Side of Oz a few years ago. It was very cool (although I think it's just a coincidence). If you go to FILMUS-L archives and search on "Pink Floyd" you might be able to find the discussion thread about it.

Marian, "Echoes" is on Meddle, not Dark Side of the Moon.

I never thought about experimenting with it and the Stargate sequence, what a great idea.

I tried this once, and while it becomes obvious not too far into the film that it's all a coincidence, a lot of it is uncanny ("Great Gig in the Sky" matches the tornado sequence quite well).

I'm watching it right now, and the effect is really interesting. You have to set your vcr or tv to SAP and you have just the Pink Floyd
    coming through.

Question: If they can do this with the music,
can they do it with commentary from directors, stars, etc?

Oh well. I have the movie and the CD. Just wanted them to do it for me.

I unfortuneately had to work last night, so I had my sister tape it. Regretfully, I didn't know about the SAP thing and the TV we have with an SAP feature is not currently hooked up to the VCR we have that can record. To her credit, my sister heroically tried to move the VCR to the TV, only to discover that she didn't know how to activate the SAP without the remote, which is missing.

Allow me to sum up my feelings on the issue.

    AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
