Has anyone else seen these? One of my local theaters has one... you put the money into the little slot, punch the number of your selection, and the CD drops from its little shelf and into your hand at the bottom.

Of course, its mostly songtracks/inspired-by stuff (today the only score CD in the machine was The Pokemon Movie) but its still interesting.

You must be in one of the areas where the concept is being test marketed. Did it look like they were selling much?

I don't think they were selling well, there were maybe just one or two different CDs than there were three weeks ago. The problem is obvious: ridiculously high prices. Each CD in the machine is $18 when you could just get in the car and drive a mile down to Best Buy and get the same CD for $12 to $14. Although with gas prices the way they are it might not be worth it .

Knowing my luck, all the good Goldsmith, Broughton, JN Howard, Burwell, Goldenthal, etc. CDs would be sold out... and all they'd have would be Eric Serra. Gack. That's like only having "Yoohoo."

Even worse, there's an incredibly rare Goldsmith CD for 18 bucks, and it gets stuck right before it drops. Or how about you get to the last dollar and the machine won't take it because it's not straight enough? Hmm. This is a pretty funny idea. Now that I think about it, it would be a pretty good idea for that show Seinfeld. I think I'll mail them this right now! Wait... well, fishsticks. Not only is the show cancelled, but they've done the vending machine bit already.

    "TWIIIIXX!!!" (for those who remember)

Yeah, but all they would have in there is left-over Pokemon soundtracks from the stores. That and it would take 30 dollars' worth of tries to actually get it.

We got those in San Antonio a couple of months ago. Theyre kinda weird. I did a double-take and stared at it for a while. (Imagine my friends and I hovering around it like the man-apes around the Monolith in 2001.)

Whats the shelf life of a good CD? Do they have enough preservatives in them to make the songs "inspired by" at least TASTE like they were in the film?

    LOL!

I've always thought that since movie theatres have so damn much food they should get rid of some of it and install a soundtrack-only store. But hey, that's just me.
