Just curious. Who holds the record for the most CD reviews here at MovieMusic? I myself have 21 reviews. (here, if you're interested.)Any guesses?

I've got 83!Oh, wait, that's at my site http://scoresheet.tripod.com/
And each has a complete track by track review. And, yes, that was a totally blatant, completely shameless, and undeniably gratuitous plug. Have a nice day. :-)
Seriously, though, I haven't gotten around to posting any here, although I've got something of an excuse...
From what I've read, Swashbuckler has a lot of reviews, although I don't know the exact number.

No guesswork involved! Quality not quantity. If you have to know, Swashbuckler wins on both counts...

WOW! Great site, Andrew. No way I could write track-by-track reviews without sounding totally repetitive, but you pull it off my friend! Very nicely! Keep up the great work!

I would have written one... but the expanded Jaws CD isn't yet in the database, so I can't review it.NP: Captain Blood - Classic Film Scores for Errol Flynn

Thanks dantoris! It does get a little hard for the track-by-track stuff, especially with the more average material, but it's usually really fun.

You should upload some of those reviews from your old site CinemaScore - very well written. What happened to that anyway?[This message has been edited by Andrew Drannon (edited 26 June 2000).]

My short-lived site, CinemaScore went the way of the dodo for several reasons:1. The layout never worked for me.
2. Well written? don't know about that. I'm too critical of my own work to think so.
3. Compared to some of the other sites, it sucked. Unless I had PhotoShop and a scanner, neither of which I have. Unless I became like ScoreLand.
4. My concept would not flourish. *
5. Master's level education takes a lot of work, and I just didn't have the time to write CD reviews of things like Rich in Love, which no one, save myself, cares about. Pessimistic? Perhaps.
6. Takes a lot of money to buy new CDs to review.
*Regarding Number 4: I persevere, though.
A new site I have in mind, when I get out of school and established in a job somewhere, will concentrate on reviews most other websites neglect, save for some of the UK sites, and some LPs, if I can get my hands on some and/ or LP transfers of stuff not yet put to CD. I haven't seen too many reviews of FSM's wonderous Golden Age CDs, or Delerue CDs. Or Burwell CDs. If it's not the most current stuff by Zimmer, Williams, and Goldsmith, or a rare boot, no one really cares.
Would anyone really read a review about an LP of A Dream of Kings by Alex North, or The 25th Hour by Delerue? Such reviews might be read, but I would have trouble commenting on the scores w/o having seen said films.Bottom line: we'll see.
But hey, you producers and composers out there can go ahead and send me your promos and rare stuff

NP -- Fight Club, Dust Brothers; just plain cool
BTW -- I lost all my old reviews, but one of those I donated to Filmtracks. See Dark City on that site to see a sample of my over-zealous writing.

HAL: Thanks!JJH: Regarding some of your points:
2. Once you have a sizeable amount of material (which your site had), no one will care about the quality of a few of the older reviews - look at mine - the first 10 or so that I wrote were absolute abominations, but they're still there (although I REALLY need to go revamp some of those, especially the Star Trek ones.)4. That's an admirable goal, a concept that scoresheet was originally based on. Sadly, i usually don't have a lot of time to go back and review some of my favorite older scores, although i try to as much as possible.
6. After a few months, you won't have to buy any more new releases - I haven't bought a new CD in a year - the record companies send them all (bad or good) to the webmasters for review, which gives me money to fill in gaps in my collection. (still haven't managed to get on Varese's mailing list, though!
)Anyway, good luck with your masters - i'm sure we're all looking forward to your new site whenever you find time for it.
BTW, I think it would be cool for someone to start a classical analysis page. Not performance reviews, etc, but something that "gets inside the head" of a work much like reviewers do with film scores. I had a page almost ready for Holst's The Planets, but haven't had time to finish it. It would be cool to eventually cover all the Mahler symphonies as well as Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen (which would be enough text to fill several books.)

Andrew, mind if I steal your classical idea for my own nefarious purposes?Still got a lot of classical collecting to do, both past and contemporary composers.

I still gotta get Wagner's Die Feen, Das Liebesverbot, and Tannhaeuser, get all of Mahler's song cycles (except for Das Lied von der Erde and Des Knaben Wunderhorn,) get the rest of Vaughan-Williams' symphonies, get all of Schumann's and Bruckner's symphonies, and that's just the beginning. Then I gotta get the scores for all those! It's never possible to have too big of a classical collection.
Feel free to steal, plagiarize, or do anything you darn well want to with the classical idea - I won't have enough time to finish it.

Maybe I should start a soundtrack site, too...
Re Schumann symphonies: Two years or so ago I picked up a wonderful double CD set with all 4 of his symphonies performed by The Cleveland Orchestra and Christoph von Dohnányi for half the price of a normal full-priced classical CD. Wonderful recording, and it seemed to be the normal price. It's on Decca, if you're interested.

Marian:Yup, it really works. After I had about 20 reviews, I got an email asking for my address and the material started rolling in. Hasn't stopped yet...
Hopefully, i'll get varese to join the club.I'll keep an eye out for that Schumann set - I just HAVE to hear the origin of Horner's Willow theme.

see, my review site had upwards of 100 reviews, and I'll be DAMNED if no one EVER sent me an email, good or bad, about the site, except for you, Andrew.but that wasn't any good, cuz you weren't affiliated with a record company. hee hee
