As of late, many members on this discussion board have mentioned that the "Mummy" and "The 13th Warrior" would make great companion pieces due to their overall sound. Has anyone else discovered another group of soundtracks that would fit into this catagory of companion pieces. Try not to mention soundtrack and their sequals if all possible. Just try to list cds that have a similar sound and who share a particlar theme.

    Here's my choices:

The Witches of Eastwick / Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde

    Crimson Tide / The Peacemaker

I don't know why some of these are associated the way they are in my mind.

Jerry Goldsmith's The Secret of N.I.M.H. and Legend
This is one of the obvious ones.

Goldsmith's Capricorn One and Brian May's The Road Warrior
The pounding excitement generated by both scores seems to be of a piece in my mind.

Patrick Doyle's Dead Again and George Fenton's Final Analysis
Both of these scores are old fashioned, over-the-top fun.

Howard Shore's Se7en and Silence of the Lambs
    Another no-brainer.

James Newton Howard's Grand Canyon and Flatliners
Both georgeous fusions of orchestra, chorus and electronics.

Maurice Jarre's Enemy Mine and Jacob's Ladder
Although written in wildly different styles, these two scores sort of work together when heard in a succession.

Herrmann's The Day The Earth Stood Still and Tiomkin's The Thing From Another World
The use of the Theremin has always linked these two in my mind, as well as giving me goosebumps!

Williams' The Witches Of Eastwick and Elfman's Beetlejuice
Elfman's music is a humorous satire of Williams.

    Fail-Safe and Catch-22

    Here's a threesome:

PAPILLON ... THE WIND AND THE LION ... and ISLANDS IN THE STREAM. All written by some guy whose name I can never remember. (His earlier HOUR OF THE GUN, a Western of all things, has a few foreshadowings of the same material, as well.)

NP: THE VANISHING (by that same guy whose name I can never remember ... this score rather neatly dovetails with whatshisname's slightly earlier BASIC INSTINCT ... now don't tell me what his name is, I wanna remember on my own ...)

-Toy Story / Toy Story 2

-Police Academy / Air Force One (Obviously the latter of the two is the superior...at least in my book)

    -Edward Scissorhands / Batman Returns

-Thin Red Line / The General's Daughter

-The World is Not Enough / Best of Techno & Trance, Vol. 2

    -Eyes Wide Shut / Koyaanisqati

Interesting....I was thinking KOYANISQAATSI and POWAQAATSI....

LEGEND OF 1900 and THE UNTOUCHABLES....

TOP GUN (what little exists) and HOT SHOTS. (HOT SHOTS--the score for TOP GUN we never had....)

    Alex North's DRAGONSLAYER and 2001...

Kamen's ROBIN HOOD and THREE MUSKETEERS

    GREEN MILE and SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION...

    Hmm...what am I going on here? Similar sounds...complimentary styles...? I don't know...
