!!!!!!! BRING BACK SHIRLEY BASSEY !!!!!!!

Maybe we have a grass-roots movement here! Sean Connery as villain; Shirley Bassey on vocals! What could be more retro-cool????

NO ONE could object to hearing the great Shirley Bassey again! (Anyone who COULD, please post your real name, address and phone number so I can, ahem, converse with you about this.)

(I always thought Lulu's vocal on MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN was kind of a fake, ersatz version of Shirley Bassey ... was there ever a better Bond vocalist as Ms. B? Many as good, but none BETTER.)

Did any of you know the story behind her high-note finish of Goldfinger? In one of the Bond documentaries on the GoldenEye DVD, when she went in to record the lyrics, she had yet to hear Barry's music. She was told, "Just go in and start singing, and don't stop until the music stops." So she went in and did just that, having no idea that the lyrics ended before the music. She hit that final high note and held it . . . and held it . . . and held it . . . and held it, until she finally heard the music end. She said she practically fell over into a chair and fainted when they yelled, "Cut!"

The Cranberries would probably do a good job.

    Chumbawumba?

Ben Folds Five would do a good job, even if I wasn't a die-hard fan. I think they could write something in the right vein as a bond film, or at least perform it.

    How about Issac Hayes?
becuase after all, Bond is a complicated man, a bad mutha, who'll risk his neck not only for another man, but the world, which in some cases, may not be enough.
    You dig what I'm saying?

    Randy Newman?
Maybe it could be an animated Bond film, like Toy Story.

"...shut your mouth." Issac Hayes would be interesting to say the least.

The consensus seems to be to bring back Shirley B. Hey, I think that'd be cool. Now, let's all petition the studio.

    NP: Joel McNeely: "Radioland Murders"

Actually, it occurs to me that a campaign tagline should have some alliteration...

Bring back Bassey! Bring back Bassey!

There you go. You can call it the "B3" campaign.

I always thought Fiona Apple (the best female singer out there right now i think) would be a great Bond singer. Her first song off of "When The Pawn.." already sounds like a Bond song.

The MGM website (www.mgm.com) has a link today to Spinal Tap right above the link for the Bond playstation game.

    Coincidence or not?

Heh, didja know Spinal Tap is kicking off their reunion tour? Mick Fleetwood is their new drummer (for how long is anyone's guess). (Their 10 PM appearance on VH1 today is already over in most North American markets, but those of you who care were probably already aware of it.) You can read about at by following this little blue stripe:

As for Bond singers, how 'bout Nick Cave?
