I just saw a movie called Walkabout.I only rented it because I saw someone mention John Barry's score.
Hey, the score is really very beautiful, and I rather enjoyed the film as well.
Walkabout is due to be re-recorded correct? Or is that already out?

I seem to remember rumors of a WALKABOUT rerecording. Otherwise, it's already been bootlegged several times on LP. I'm sure there are CD boots as well, though I've never seen one.

Hi JJ, It's true.,Barry's superb (but short) score to Walkabout is being re-recorded by the usual Nic Raine and his team in Prague. Apparently the remainder of the cd will be filled with other Barry unrecorded rarities (hope they do White Buffalo), the original score was released on a POO bootleg, and surprisingly good quality too. I first saw the film when I was 15 and all the boy's in class were talking about this the next day....something to do with Jenny Agutter swimming

I recently saw a film in IFC (Independant Film Channel) called "Walkabout" about a teenager and a little boy who are lost in the desert and are guided by a "local" on a Walkabout. Is this the same film we are talking about? If so, I can't remember the score...would somebody enlighten me?
However, when I saw the film it was like 2:00am and all I remember besides the whining little kid is the girl going skinny dipping...hubba hubba

Aaron, watch that "hubba-hubba"-ing. That girl is only fourteen.

If we're talking about Jenny Agutter, she was eighteen at the time the picture was made. I don't remember how old she's supposed to be in the movie.

I too rented the movie recently and enjoyed seeing it again, along with hearing Barry's beautiful theme in context. It seems, though, that the score is pretty much summed up by that theme, itself being very nicely performed on the Moviola CD. When I heard that there was going to be a re-release of the score, it left me wondering exactly how much could be added?

I agree, Scorro. The "Moviola" recording is breathtaking and when I finally saw the movie in a revival house the piece said it all.

Oh no...On the commentary track for the laserdisc, Agutter says quite plainly, during the swimming scene, that she was fourteen.

I haven't seen the laserdisc, but available biographies for Jenny Agutter indicate that she MUST have been eighteen at the time WALKABOUT was shot. Perhaps she lied in order to get the job. I agree, she would have been a very mature fourteen, if she WAS fourteen then. I'd suspect her assertion is just an attempt to drum up publicity of one kind or another. (I'd have been nervous about shooting nude scenes with a 14-year-old ... perhaps Agutter thought she wouldn't have gotten the job otherwise. I should withhold further comment until or unless I hear her narration, or some other form of confirmation. Although frankly I doubt I will bother, I never liked this picture much to begin with.)
