Gae

Oscar® Winner

Just surfing the profiles page and was quite amazed to see how many members there are here now. I didnt count them all ( I have still got a life...just!) but must be roughly about 4-500 ( can you confirm PeterK?). Sadly, a lot of the original members seem to have disappeared into oblivion, (but "life goes on Indy")...my biggest "irk" (is there such a word?)...is, where the hell are all the female film music lovers? Am I right in believing that 99% of us here are guys?(present company accepted Joan!!) I mean I know this isn't a dating agency (anyway I've got a girlfriend) but... I always thought the female of the species was supposed to be the most "romantic" and not just the "deadliest". Its a bit of a depressing thought...are we guys really the big soppy cuddly teddy bears or is it just girls aren't as "geeky" as us guys and not into talking in-depth on the subject? Cor, so many questions and so little time!! Please discuss! (P.S.I know this doesn't apply to those of us who are only into the "testosterone" inducing action-packed scores, but only those of us who go weak at the knees and goose-pimply at a beautifully written melodies.)
(Oh well, at least its a refreshingly different topic!) Gae[This message has been edited by Gae (edited 04 June 2000).]

It's been observed by so called "officals" that when listening to music in this case songs. Normally Women pay more attention to the words or lyrics of the artist. On the other hand a Male will normally pay more attention to the music; ie. theme or melodies before he'll really listen to the lyrics.
Why this is so, I have no idea, but it is interesting.So...with that in mind...I can kinda figure that the majority of film music listeners are males.
But the real question is, wheres all the black people?

Theres only one score track availible on the soundtrack. It's a combo of rock&roll and techno with a choir.[This message has been edited by TimT (edited 04 June 2000).]

Hi Gae. You might want to scroll back to March 21 and read the thread that Scott posted about women and scores. I tried to post the site, and it didn't appear. Duh!
It was an interesting discussion.NP First Knight

I may have been a tomboy growing up, and most of my friends nowadays are guys, but the last time I checked, I was all girl. And I love film music. College is approaching an end here, so I haven't gotten to the board as often as I used to. I should be around a lot more this summer, though.

Hahahahaha, Hey Tim, I would be part of that black people crowd your looking for. Good to see your not part of the majority that has decided since the color of their skin is dark, they are forced to bob their head to the beat of offensive rap lyrics. Good to see you here

Forgive me Dex if you are real and not a fantasy...You said the last time you checked you were all girl, maybe I could verify that for you. There are women into this sound, even women who write it. Camille Paglia mentions film music a lot in her column (Gae, maybe it's a lesbian thing?). There are African-American film composers so there must be A-A film music listeners (BTW, Terence Blanchard is performing in Ann Arbor soon!).
I think the key isn't race or gender, it's the need for fantasy to compensate for what's missing in life compared with the ideals of myth. It's the need to be emotionally moved, akin to the need to transcend contemporary consciousness, provided by film and music, that brings us here.
And, if that sounds like bull, then maybe guys are just more musically inclined than chicks

Joke or not, I was kinda hoping we could have avoided that (apparently inevitable) conversational direction. It is the verbal equivalent of the way all those sweaty, creepy fanboys look at my girlfriend when I drag her into a comic book store. Sure, they're all joking...

Big Bear must not remember the dantoris fiasco.Anyhow, awhile ago we (MovieMusic.com BBS users) were a part of an experiment where a person signed up under a multiple names and used them as if they were different people.
Eventually, Peter noticed in the logs that the posts from different people were coming from similar/same IPs and that they all spelled a specific word incorrectly. I don't remember which word it was.
The character 'dex' was one of the characters concocted as part of the experiment.

Does the word 'excellant' come to mind? Search feature will be making an appearance today, in full glory. Why not search for this fine misspelling for a fun first use of the new, powerful, hunked-out search function?

I like your profile pic! That is really cool, and it kind of moves like Saddam in South Park (that's a good thing to me).I have my pic but it's kinda of silly and now I am debating whether or not to put it up. It's hard to get a good webcam picture on a community computer. People stare at you as if you are doing something wrong or weird. So, I may just have to scan.
Ok, too much thought spent on this...

Come on guys. Leave this crap off the boards. Emo, you shouldn't be so shocked I ask people here to ignore others, as I asked you to get over and ignore Andre Lux previously with your "To Andre Lux" thread. Lux has been asked to ignore you and Bear (and just about every one else, too - I am sure he's proud of it), Bear has been asked ignore Lux and Lou.... etc etc etc.The naysayers have cried foul when I delete things, so this behind-the-scenes approach is a little different, and appears to be more effective as the "public stage" element is no longer part of the game. I appreciate those who stick to their words when they say they'll ignore and avoid the trash (that means you, Mark).
What's interesting about all this? There are no more than 5 people here (one recently banned himself) who are upset/obsessed/distraught with one another, and it's quite pathetic how these 5 have nearly wrecked the entire place for others. Thanks to a little self restraint, the place is still intact. We all have hope.
Emo, now answer Mark's questions. They are pretty damned useless - so is a lot around here - but interesting nonetheless. And get your profile pic up! Everyone else too!

quote:
Emo, now answer Mark's questions. If he is supposed to ignore me, why should I feed into his obsession? Also, you never once demanded that Andre answer my questions as to why he randomly attacked me, so why this? You want people to leave this crap off the boards, but then perpetuate this discourse. I guess it all seems a bit contradictory.
Honestly, don't sweat it as it makes no difference to me. You are trying to do a job, but it is interesting how seemingly arbitrary all of it appears to be.
I understand wanting it to be a friendly place - I like the people here. I think some are a little off in the head, but I have had no need to start silliness. I have only defended myself, and you know that. I hope this is the end of this discussion, Mr. Kelly.
