Just imagine for a moment that the Indiana Jones movies suddenly start to go the way of the 007 series. By that I mean, new actors playing Indy and so on. Could you ever imagine this ever happening and if so, who would you cast? Also, since John Williams won't be around forever, who would be a worthy replacement?

Although I would hope the Indiana Jones would never become as boring and unentertaining as the recent Bond films, if the role had to be re-cast I'd pick Tom Selleck, having almost become Indiana Jones before Harrison Ford. He was unavailable, I think Bruce Campbell could do a fine job.As for scoring, well, I'd pick Jerry Goldsmith. Him or Joel McNeely (he did a great job incorporating Williams' Star Wars music into his Shadows of the Empire CD).

Hopefully, there will never be but one REAL Indiana Jones. As far as scoring goes, Joel McNeely or David Arnold would get my picks.

I would go with David Arnold. His Stargate score is very IJ sounding and he has the same bombast thematic approach as Williams. Judging by Stargate and ID4 I think he'd do a great job.Actor - how about Russell Crowe..he's got the sarcasm and wit. I think he'd be good.

Russel Crowe would of been my first choice as well. Seeing him ride a horse in Gladiator brought up this notion of casting a new Indy sometime in the future. He also seems to have a bit of a "hard a**" attitude which seems to really go along with many of Harrison Fords characters. Indy always comes up with all the smart remarks and I thinks Russel Crowe would fit his shoes appropriately. As for the music, David Arnold would do a fine job.

Too bad River Phoenix went the way of the dodo. m I'd pick him to succeed Harrison Ford. He did a really good job at mimicking Ford's mannerisms in the Last Crusade. Why not someone like David Newman for the scoring duties?

Russell Crowe would get my vote too if came down to Harrison Ford retiring officially as soon as Indy 4 comes out. Why not George Clooney or Val Kilmer. The scoring duties would go definetly go to Jerry Goldsmith or John Williams. If not them, then I'd go with Carter Burwell, David Arnold, Joel McNeely, or Christopher Young.

Clooney or Kilmer would be very bad choices for that role, Kilmer more so than Clooney. I have nothing against Clooney, but he just wouldn't cut it as Indy.NP: The Music Compilation, Part 1 - "Rumble In The Bronx" (personal compilation)

Actually many years ago Bruce Campbell starred in a parody short of the Indy films---Waders of the Lost Park--that convinced me he'd be good in the role.

I'd forgotten about that. But I think it was called Waiters of the Lost Park. And I think I read it was available on either the American laserdisc of Army of Darkness or the Japanese laserdisc. Probably the Japanese one.

Wasn't it reported that Spielberg actually wanted to make a JAMES BOND film, but that Georgoe Lucas suggested something even better... and that turned out to be Dr. Jones? I think I remember hearing this on the VHS released Widescreen editions (one of the three), but I can't confirm that since I don't own them (the ones I saw were my brother's). I just found that interesting in light of the topic here.[This message has been edited by Rang (edited 04 June 2000).]

I'd like Debney to score an Indy movie. Joel McNeely would be good too.As for the actor, I think Crowe would indeed be a great Indy. Clooney wouldn't be bad either.

I will make another mention of Bruce Campbell. I think he would be great in the Indy role! I watched The Evil Dead just last night. Whether playing Ash, Brisco, or any character, Campbell is always fun to watch.

Yes, that is true. After CE3K, MGM/UA asked Spielberg to do a movie for them. He said, "Give me the next Bond," and they said (along the lines of), "Sorry, but we can't do that." When he told the story to Lucas, on the beach in Hawaii, Lucas said, "Forget Bond. I've got something better."If Spielberg had gotten to do a Bond, it probably would've been For Your Eyes Only, which came out the same year as Raiders.

How about Richard Chamberlain? A sort of step up the ladder from playing the 2nd class Indiana Jones character "Allan Quatermain"?

I think Hans Zimmer should take on the role...he could traverse the 6 continents of the Earth on a post-ironic quest for the long lost Lyre of Orpheus, all the while escaping the clutches of classically trained mercenaries whom, protecting it at the cost of their reputations, fear the prized instrument will be reduced to a 24-bit MIDI sample. John Williams will make a cameo appearance as the erstwhile appropriationist/adventurer's marketing director, who'll embolden his client to "take the money and run". Steven Speilberg will direct with his back turned producing yet another schmaltzy epic that will surely be the second-to-last word on America's conflicted, collective conscience, and James Horner will pull a folio out from the back of his bedroom closet labelled, ST: 2, give his far-sighted orchestrator a bottle of white-out and a leaky pen and then go on to make another million dollars...I can hardly wait!
