I would class Elia Cmiral's score for "Ronin" as a lesser known score, and it's one of my all time favourites. The score for "The Truman Show" bu Burkhard Dallwitz and Phillip Glass is also one I really enjoy.

Gae--I have a copy of The Swimmer. Neat film, easily the best thing Hamlisch has done IMHO.

Wow, Graham, you remember that movie too? I have no idea how the lyrics of the song go exactly, but what you wrote sure has the right ring to it. I remember the melody of the song better than the lyrics though. And that scene when Robert Mitchum shot his brand new golden watch into pieces and George Kennedy's amazement that there is running water in the house. I'd really love to get a hold of that score.[This message has been edited by Nicolai P. Zwar (edited 24 June 2000).]

Ah, another one ... I've always held W.G. Snuffy Walden's work on THE STAND with high regard. Those delicate guitar passages backed by (stringed) electronics, and mixed with traditional acoustic instrumentation created a subtly evocative atmosphere that's quite moving, and which magnificently underscored Stephen King's apocalyptic story. King perfectly summarized Walden's score as being "instrumentally spare, emotionally full, beautifully textured." And I would add, and then some ...

You know, it's interesting...it seems that most of my favorite scores are never discussed on film-music message boards. For instance, one of my all-time favorites, "Masters of the Universe," never gets mentioned unless someone wants to label it a "bad Star Wars clone" (an opinion I just can't figure out). Even when discussing the great Jerry Goldsmith, whom almost everyone loves--or at least respects--to some degree, no one mentions "Rambo III," which seems the most ignored of his Rambo trilogy.Other rarely mentioned gems include Silvestri's "Judge Dredd" and (don't hate me for this) "Richie Rich." I also get a big kick out of Richard Band's "Mutant," which (oh, please don't kill me for this) I find to be far superior to Goldsmith's "Alien."
I'd also like to add, even though I don't have the actual albums yet, two very lesser-known scores that always choke me up: John Scott's "Far from Home: The Adventures of Yellow Dog" and David Newman's "The Brave Little Toaster."
NP: Those andrenaline-pumping drum beats from "Village Raid" on Silva's expanded "Rambo: First Blood Part II"

Judge Dredd? Masters of the Universe? Mutant?
The Brave Little Toaster? Richie Rich? Todd, it's like you're in my head.
