I just picked up this score last night. I gotta say, I haven't seen the movie, but the score is very cool. This is the first I've heard from Elia, and I really enjoyed his work. What other scores has he done besides Battlefield and Stigmata? Actually, how is Stigmata?

He also scored the 1998 DeNiro/Frankenheimer film Ronin, another excellant score. But I have yet to hear Stigmata.

You can find out more on Elia by checking out my page on him at my Dantoris website - www.angelfire.com/ca5/dantoris/cmiral.html

It's got reviews for Battlefield Earth and Ronin, sound samples, filmography, pictures, biography, and news.

I'm probably the biggest Cmiral fan on the board, as anyone here could tell you. I simply love how unique his music is.

Actually, I just remember the Battlefield Earth review isn't up yet. I wrote one for the database here, but it hasn't been put up yet (waiting for PeterK to get back and add it). As soon as it's up, I'll add it to my page.

    Dantoris,

Checked out your Cmiral page. Nice work. Although I've never heard the score for Stigmata, I did see the movie and noticed the score. From what I remember, it sounded very good. It's available through Intrada. You may want to check it out and add it to your page.

Stigmata doesn't have as strong as a theme as Ronin, but it's soundscape is impressive. "Man on a Mission" from Cmiral's Intrada promo does have a pretty strong theme and is a good track. It combines the dark sound with more hopeful music.

As usual, Battlefield Earth gave a chance for Cmiral to show off his knack for writing dynamic percussion music, but his main theme seems to be like a watered-down ID4.

"Ronin" is my favorite theme and score that he has composed so far.

I have been tempted to order Stigmata simply because of Cmiral, but I want to wait until I see the movie.

Al - I agree that his Ronin is very good. Like my review says, it gives an air of mystery to the score, and at the same time, adds to the sorrow of the characters and the situation.

    dantoris,

While the atmosphere of mystery mixed with sorrow was superb, what I found clever about Cmiral's compositions for "Ronin" was that the music never actually took sides with any of the characters. That added to the unpredictable story and helped the movie dramatically. Just a thought since we're on the topic...

Al - You know, I never thought of that. There was no real "heroic" theme associated with anyone, just the main one, wonderfully performed on a duduk. But now that you mention that, I realize you're right.

    Thanks for pointing that out.
