    A cool 32" 16:9 Sony TV.

And if it's true that it's really already available in Austria, I'll have the expanded Jaws on Friday!

Though I hated the film immensely, I picked up Zimmer's Mission: Impossible 2 this morning. I'm liking it better the second time around, and I must say, it actually works better on its own than in the film. In comparison to the first, I have to say that Elfman's is still the more enjoyable or the two and is easier to listen to. Zimmer just uses a lot of pounding, but it's still a listenable CD.

    Here's a few scores I recently got...

    "The Patriot" -- John Williams
    "Sleepers" -- John Williams
"The Perfect Storm" -- James Horner
    "Dad" -- James Horner
"Oscar and Lucinda" -- Thomas Newman
"Fried Green Tomatoes" -- Thomas Newman
    "Basic Instinct" -- Jerry Goldsmith

...that's probably all the scores I'll buy this month. I can't wait for Goldsmith's "Hollow Man" score next month.

Picked up Batman Beyond yesterday, and (as I'm sure you're aware from my other thread), regretted it within just a few minutes of playing it.

I didn't actually buy this, I just copied the 254 .wav files from Barrington Pheloung's score to the PC/Playstation game "Broken Sword" onto my HD. I LOVE this music, it's so atmospheric.
If another game is ever turned into a movie, it should be Broken Sword, it's got a brilliant story.

    Yikes! MWRuger and Mark:

Why don't I hand you my account number so that you can transfer some of the giant heap of money you obviously have to me? That's an impressive list of new acquisitions you've got there...

    Just in:

SUPERMAN 2+3 (Thorne doing Williams plus rocksongs)

    and

UNDER FIRE (Goldsmith - a great flamboyant, yet laidback score, though perhaps just a little TOO overrated on this board?)

That's it for now. Gotta log off....

UNDER FIRE overrated??? You're lucky you live so far away, chum!

Mark: you're most welcome. We love you too. And thanks to your own largesse, I can announce the following additions (all in the mail from Amazon -- they told me so, anyway -- but they'll be here soon):

    QB VII (Goldsmith)
    CHINATOWN (Goldsmith)
    A PATCH OF BLUE (Goldsmith)
    VERTIGO (Herrmann, rerecorded by McNeely)
AMAZING STORIES (Williams/Delerue, rerecorded for Varese -- was it McNeely or Debney? can't remember)

I picked this particular bunch because I figured I'd never find them in a "used" bin (I haven't so far, anyway), and they're all "must-haves," at least to me. (All Goldsmith titles are "must-haves" to me, but the three above were a bit LESS pressing than some of the others. No accounting for taste ... I'm obscurely pleased that Mark, who loves A PATCH OF BLUE even more than I do, took almost as long as I did to finally get it ... hey Mark, we'll have to get you LILIES OF THE FIELD and THE VANISHING next ...)

And here's the one I got yesterday: playing this second:

CAPRICORN ONE (OST bootleg version, kindly CDRed by good old Brad)

(He also lent me the last three Goldsmith albums from Prometheus I don't yet own: BREAKOUT, CONTRACT ON CHERRY STREET and THE CHALLENGE. Love em all. I want them desperately, but DON'T want CDRs of them, because I kind of feel that with such a tiny label as Prometheus, it's WRONG to get a CDR ... unless no more were available for sale. It just seems to me that a purchase of one of their originals is a vote of confidence for the work they're doing, and a thumbs-up for any such releases that might come in the future. Curious, since I am a borderline sociopath in most other respects. But you all knew that.)
