Jackie Chan's best material in a long time. Doesn't match anything like his last minor masterpiece DRUNKEN MASTER 2, but it's good to see him put strength and power into his formula again. The schtick is at least hilarious instead of just goofy when it needs to be. I didn't expect it. Better than the other high profile pics in release. Sweet choreography, especially the rope-darting with the horseshoe. Randy Edelman doesn't annoy as much as usual (ie, nice percussion cues, innocuos thematic material).

I agree wholeheartedly although I didn't laugh as much as I did with RUSH HOUR. However, the Chinese Drinking Game scene gave me the biggest laugh I've had in a flick since, um, GALAXY QUEST.

I, like mlw and Brad, enjoyed this film. Guess I was in the mood
for some light comedy. Don’t expect Shakespeare but do have some fun.

The fight scenes were wonderfully choreographed, and for
once they were VISIBLE! Straight on photography withOUT
    surrealistic fast forwards or watch-carefully-or-you’ll-miss-
it-slow motion. Fun allusions to previous westerns like
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I laughed out loud
many times, especially during the first half of the movie. It
seemed to lose a little energy in the second half. The out-
takes during the end titles are hilarious.

Edelman, I felt, wrote some very decent action motifs and western
themes, but they were abridged too abruptly. I was looking
forward to the end titles, so that I could hear these themes
extensively developed. @#$%7%!! They played a rap song, so
I left. We all need to STORM Hollywood to halt that
    sacrilegious practice.

I think I’ve only seen one Chan movie. He didn’t talk a lot in this film,
but he was a gifted comedic actor with an animated face.
Expect more from Owen Wilson, his sidekick. He has an
ironic, detached way of speaking and fine comedic timing. I was
also impressed with him in Minus Man. I understand that
he is also a screen writer. Of course, like
in Cat Ballou, the horse stole the show.

Wilson turned up in last year's THE HAUNTING, and in a cameo in RUSHMORE, which he cowrote. Also cowrote BOTTLE ROCKET with the same guy, director Wes Anderson. Looking forward to this one, it's the one picture on the horizon that might have the potential to be funnier than BATTLEFIELD EARTH.

Joan, pretty much any Jackie movie is recommendable, but if you REALLY wanna be blown away, the one to check out is DRUNKEN MASTER II. Awful rinky-dink electronic score that doesn't do it justice, but otherwise, absolutely dizzying.

If Jackie had wings, he'd be dangerous.

    Joan:

They did play a suite from the score after the dumb song in the end credits.

Shucks, Jack, I don't know. I always stay for the end credits, and I sat there (alone, hubby feels stupid sitting there) for about two minutes while the RAP played on. I got ticked and left. If they did play a suite, it would have been rather short. I really wish movies would stop this and utilize original soundtrack music. This song didn't seem to fit the movie at all.

Just got back from the theater on this one.

The music didn't do much for me. At all. The movie was pretty fun though. I liked it quite a lot more than "Rush Hour," but it's still not as good as his Hong Kong stuff. American insurance companies won't insure him to do all of that crazy stuff he normally does. I miss the Jackie Chan of old: jumping off buildings in one, long shot; jumping on to hovercrafts and breaking his leg; and all of that other freaky action he used to provide. <Sigh> The good old days.

I liked Owen Wilson better than Chris Tucker for sure. He actually wasn't annoying to listen to.
