I loved John williams score for The Lost World: Jurassic Park, especially track 4: The Hunt. However, this track cannot be heared in the movie? Can anyone tell me why?
    It's really a thrilling track!

From what I understand, "The Hunt" was the sequence where the rival team arrives and begins capturing all the dinos, correct? I believe the track was supposed to be in the film as heard on the CD, but ended up being scored by using cuts from other tracks.

But you're right: it is a fantastic track!

Isn't that cue the version heard over the end title? (I have neither film nor score memorized, although I love the music's subtle little references to Steiner's original KING KONG.)

It was probably just too long for the final edit. It doesn't sound in the movie. Lovely cue, posttonal Hatari. You did know it's considered uncool by the herd to like this score? I consider Lost World a piece with JP, more of Williams' Olympian paen to the natural world. Related in emphasis to his Flute Concerto and The 5 Sacred Trees, though smarter people than I will argue its just like Alan Silvestri or something really gnarly and conventional. **** em. My favorite stylistic references in the score relate to Williams' early 70s modernist action writing and Lalo Schifrin's Dirty Harry/Enter the Dragon style.

Isn't it just a concert version of the main theme, like on the original JP the second & last tracks (end title is welcome to JP), or Duel of the Fates/Anakins theme from Ep.1 ?

No, it's a very furious variation of the main theme, very complex, one of the best cues Williams has written in a long time. I especially love this "piano slamming" somewhere in the middle.

I thought I could remember a short excerpt of it being played in the movie, but maybe I'm wrong. The music editing in the film is very bad anyway, especially during the climax sequence, when the last two minutes are repeated because the sequence is too long. I found that very confusing, because I already knew the music and was waiting for a climax that clearly couldn't happen so soon. But then, the movie was really bad, too.

I don't like this score quite as much as JP, but considering that the latter is among my very favourites, that's no surprise. I bet the JP DVD won't have an isolated score track, or a commentary by JW. But why? In the interview on Nixon's enhanced track, he says what a great idea those enhanced CDs are because they allow composers to talk about their work etc.

You keep talking about that one over and over again, but I still couldn't find any references, except for those obvious drum rhythms in the main theme...?

The moment is very specific, during some of the "walking" music, which directly echoes the "explorers" music from KONG. I won't mention it again until I dig out the CD itself and isolate the precise section.

Ah, yes, of course. The concert version is The Lost World (track 2 I think). Must have just switched my brain off for a bit. Sorry.
