A friend of mine wants me to make him a CDR copy of The Rock, but he wants it put in chronological(sp?) order, including breaking the suites up so that EVERYTHING runs in order. I know "Rock House Jail" and "In the Tunnels" are pieced together from different moments, and maybe "Mason's Walk/First Launch" and "Rocket Away."

I guess the title of the post is pretty self-explanatory. I need someone who can help me sort out all the suite tracks on the CD so that I can separate them into their own tracks and put them in order.

    Thanks.

I know quite a bit about the score for "The Rock". Here is an earlier post of mine which might be of help: I think I can answer some of your questions. I love the Rock, almost too much. Hummel gets the Rockets, Jade, Fort Walton, and The Chase are fairly obvious. Rock House Jail comprises the landing of the Marines on the Rock, setup of the missles and communications, setting up of the anti-intrusion in the shower room, Hummel's patriot speech, the call to FBI director Womack, then makes a subtle change into the Seal incursion (about the 4 min mark) and includes the entire landing up until the cistern room. In the Tunnels starts when Mason first does his little timing roll through the fire thing, then skips the shootout in the shower room (unfortunately), and continues (again about 4 minutes into the track) into the chase on the rail cart through the tunnels. Mason's Walk begins when Mason walks down broadway (where all the hostages are), then to the "I'd take pleasure in guttin you boy" scene, then to when Goodspeed and Mason are talking in the cells, when they escape, then the "glass or plastic" scene, through to the launch of the roof battery missle. Rocket Away is the music near the end starting with the standoff with Hummel, the lower lighthouse scene, the final fight, and the green smoke scene. IMHO, one of the the greatest tracks ever composed. I hope this helps, and yes I have seen this movie too many times, and yes I have listened to the score way too many times (Never!), and yes, I need professional help.
I hope this helps. So, to better answer your question, I believe that the tracks would be best broken up as the following:
    1. Hummel Gets the Rockets (entire track)
    2. Rock House Jail (first 3:59, give or take a second or two)("Landing on the Rock")
    3. The Chase (entire track)
    4. Jade (entire track)
    5. Rock House Jail (from 3.59 to the end)("Seal Incursion")
    6. In The Tunnels (first 3: 47, again, give or take a second or two)("Mason's Roll")
    7. In The Tunnels (from 3:47 to the end)("Tunnel Chase")
    8. Mason's Walk- First Launch (first 1:59)("Mason's Walk")
    9. Mason's Walk- First Launch (1:59 to 4:40)("I'd Take Pleasure in Guttin You, Boy")
    10. Mason's Walk- First Launch (4:40- end)("First Launch")
    11. Rocket Away (first 2: 46) ("Standoff- Hummel's Death)
    12. Rocket Away (from 2:46-8:10 )("Lower Lighthouse")
    13. Rocket Away (from 8:10-9:04)("Final Fight")
    14. Rocket Away (from 9:04- end)("Green Smoke")
    15. Fort Walton- Kansas (entire track)

Now reading through this, the tracks really aren't as broken up as one might first imagine. In the beginning yes, but near the end chronologically the music is in order. However, as you can see, I have broken up the tracks further to give you a better idea of how the score plays. Also, in paranthesis, I put a little cue title to describe where the music takes place in the film. But I am pretty sure that the music is now in order. For instance, between my track 6 and 7 is the shower room scene, but that was not on the score. On the whole however, most of the music is there. I really hope this helps, and if you have any other concerns please tell me. And of course, if anyone thinks I am smoking crack and split the music up incorrectly, tell me.

    Ed

I don't think you've watched or listened to The Rock enough times!

Thanks for all the help. This will certainly being extremely useful.

Yeah I know. I actually haven't watched it for awhile. I almost didn't remember some of the stuff. Listening to the music again brought it all back though. I am glad I could help.

dantoris, I think you can substitute the shower room masacre scene with the opening main titles.

After watching the movie again, I *strongly* feel that the two scenes uses the same music.

I usually play track 4, and then switch to track 1. Works kinda good. Perhaps you should try it.

You know, I was just thinking the exact same thing as I was waiting for this thread to pop up. I will give it a try.
