Lou on the defensive, up against the ropes....

Lancelot--I don't really enjoy slamming entertainment. And I don't want you as an ememy. Going to see MI2, I went for the same reason you did, to see a John Woo action film knock my socks off. I was not expecting Citizen Kane, nor Dickens, nor even something on par with the original TV series.I wanted light fun and didn't get it. Subsequently, I'm not some elitist that should stop watching movies and needs a diet of Shakespeare and Tolstoy. I love a lot of stuff, even trash, and I don't mind you knocking it if you think it's bad (contrary to an earlier posting I made--I did not try to kill someone for disliking Hatati! as I said I did--you can dislike all my favorites as much as you want--they won't stop being my favorites). I can find tons of things to be positive about and I could have kept my mouth shut but I didn't feel like it in this case. I did not want to keep it down. I wanted to take a bullhorn and not only slam the film and the score but the people who like this stuff. Perhaps that last is where I went too far--because everyone is entitled to their likes and dislikes. I know that. I don't expect you to see it my way, I can only hope that you will. Still, I felt the need to sound a wake up call to you--MI2 is not a blast, it needs to be blasted.

Otten--Boy, I got under your skin. Yes, I understand that just because I dislike something that doesn't automatically make it bad, it's just my opinion and I'm not the final arbitor, nor the center of the universe. I realise that someone can love something I don't---I've known this all my life and in most cases, I've been the one to love something (like say, film muisc in general) that others don't. I'd like to think I have broad tastes and am open minded. While I now mostly listen to film music, this comes after years of listening to classical, pop, jazz, and the like and finding I like film music best. It's true I'm tough to please--I'd love to be easier and less rigid but I'm not. In this case, I did not feel like leaving the Zimmer lovers alone. Nor did I mind the risk of sounding like a moron. I'll say it again--Hans Zimmer is a talentless bum. Hyperbole, but what of it, if saying this makes me a moron, I'm a moron, it's worth it. I know you don't feel the same. I'm sorry, I wish I didn't feel the same either. Will I shut up about it? No, in this case, I'm going to be rude. Feel free to slam me for it.

It's a wee bit like a vicious circle around here, don't you think? It reminds me of my little Gladiator fiasco a few weeks back, and like that one, I see, once again, the same personages paralyzing the discussion with their self-importance. Here, Lou is the target of their reproaches. And why? Because he disagrees with them. And because, of all things, he used a few G rated epithets! I've always hated cliques and this board reeks of a particular ensemble of "Monkey-Boys" who somehow believe they have the last word on everything. Frankly, it seems almost impossible to have a good, old-fashioned discussion here (heated, or otherwise), without the you-know-whos chiming in with their moral superiority. And, as has abundantly been proven to me, time and time again, these are the same individuals who offer the least substance to a discussion. They're very much like sloganeers or pawn dealers who say little to avoid losing a sale. So I say to them: go join a cult, start up a Stalinist fan club or volunteer for the Bush campaign...and don't forget to take your Zimmer scores with you!

Back to the topic at hand, MI:2:

    Lou, I concur.

You know, I find it interesting that a movie such as MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE II generates more
debate than a great many "serious" films.

Personally, I thought that it was entertaining, but not as good as some of Woo's previous work. I went with a friend who hated FACE/OFF (I loved it) and she really enjoyed M:I2. Although that may have more to do with the latter film's diminuitive star. As I said in a previous post, I thought the best part was the last third when Woo took control of the film. Sure, it was over the top and completely ludicrous, but I really enjoyed it because of that.

As to Zimmer's score, for the most part I thought it worked. Again, I agree that he's done MUCH better, but I thought it was okay.

I didn't target Mr. Goldberg as the embodiement of everything against "M:I 2", John Woo et. al., and the only thing that reeks around here is your observations of "elitest societies", 2. Don't re-open *this* can of worms.

I'm afraid there isn't a lid big enough to keep it closed. In any case, if you don't care to read negative criticism, I'd suggest you abstain from the discussion. This board wasn't build solely for your amusement only. And since I've already commented upon the only noteworthy soundtrack of the year thus far, Mission to Mars, all I have left to opine on is the less than noteworthy. And, I'm under no obligation to hold my tongue until The Hollow Man is released. And lastly, Lancelot, you spend more words on chastisement than you do analyzing your own affection for Zimmer. If it were the reverse, I wouldn't be so cantankerous. But then, I forgot, it behooves you to actually weigh in with your own assessment. We're obviously unworthy...

Lou: It's not in my nature to tippy-toe around a thorn bush...it just prolongs the agony. That some might find the flavour of my thought too brash or, just think me a fool....ehhhh...that's life. I don't expect or aspire to be liked by everyone. It would be unnatural. Besides, this is a discussion board not a house of cards. It will survive despite myself or anyone else for that matter.

Man, how you love to hear yourself go on.

For someone who raves about "Mission to Mars" and berates the repetative percussiveness of Zimmer, you've got a unusual sense of values. And why is it that your sole arguement equates to "if you can't take the heat..."?

I'm not opposed to contrary opinion--what I humbly attempt to counter is the overwhelming amount of oppressive wrath and venom. I'd ask if one would prefer to read positive commentary and reflection rather than "bash sessions"....but when some seem to bask in the negativity, well....don't be surprised if once in a while myself or others tend to chirp in with alternate perspectives. (If you can't join 'em, beat 'em...?)

I think some of you need to relax. I was simply stating that I didn't appreciate being called stupid for my opinion. As a said before, if any or all of you dislike Zimmer, more power to you! I think we "Monkey-Boys" would just like you to respect our opinions as I believe most of us respect yours. That's all. I believe we were and are having a good, old-fashioned discussion of people's opinions of MI-2, it's score, Zimmer, and music in general. That's what this board is about. However, crossing over into attacks on the members is unnecessary. It serves no purpose other than to anger people. The discussion breaks down into name calling. Bring on the discussion, bring on the Zimmer bashing, but leave the name calling at home.

    Should I?.........

    Nah, enough's enough.

SPOR2---I agree why beat around the bush when you can yank the whole plant.
Until you yell fire in a theater, the Constitution is on your side.

NP: Metamorphic Variations (Arthur Bliss), a concert work, not a film score.

I really sympathize with you guys.
It's indeed worthless try to argue with these Zimmernazy Boys. They just can't stand a bad review over their master. And they go personal.
I've beem banned from other boards by saying much less than you guys said about Zimmer and his clones. Yes, banned! With personal menaces included... Really embarrassing.
Aparently, the MV's lobby over the message boards is very effective.

    Take care!

"Damn, ain't that horse dead yet?"
"Nope. Still got some life in her pa..."
"Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle, that old nag sure can take a beating, can't she?"
"Reckon, she'll make some darn fine glue pa."
"Son, the stubborn ones always do...remember that when ya get my age"

re: Missionimpossibletwo-- I'm glad that Zimmer is moving up the fast-food chain to Kid Rock at least. He's finally found something that he does well! (could be a modern art masterpiece!)

Zimmer posts always amuse me. Almost as much as the Horner ones did back in the old days (2 years ago)!

    Keep writing! :-)
