Just bought the re-issued Supergirl cd.I was listening to it and noticed that at three different spots there were loud pops on the cd.I once had the original Silva release of Supergirl and never noticed these before.I was wondering if anyone noticed these as well on the original or the re-pressing.The spots where I noticed the pops were on track #12 at about 2:40 into it,then on track #16 between :10 and :16 seconds into the track. Finally I noticed amother one on track #19 around 1:10.Just wanted to know if anyone else hears these too.Because i'm a huge audiophile and I really get annoyed with this kind of stuff.NP: A View To A Kill(Barry)(****½)

Has anyone else purchased the reissue and had these problems? I'm thinking of buying it, but if there were pressing problems, then I'll wait for Silva to fix it...Hopefully this disc that Matthew got was just a fluke.

I have a really annoying pop in "Open the Gates" on my Star Trek V CD - what about that?

HEY!
Are yous guys talking about the RECENTLY re-issued Silva Supergirl, or are y'all referring to the FIRST Silva reissue that was released several years ago?

A recent reissue? So that's why everybody's talking about that score suddenly!
NP: Shadows of the Empire (McNeely) - I still wonder why this is marketed as film music.

I'm wondering about the recent re-re-release -- the one that is currently available from merchants
It doesn't make sense to me for Silva to release this CD with known(?) problems in the source... These problems, I'd think, would be pretty easy to fix using these marvelous things called "computers."

I've got the original Silva issue of SUPERGIRL, and never noticed anything wrong with it. Silva failed to correct some weird end-of-cue dropouts on even its REISSUE of PAPILLON, however ...NP: GODZILLA VS. MECHAGODZILLA (1974 version, Masaru Sato)

This is an interesting topic---glitches on soundtrack releases---because I've been noticing a hell of a lot more of them recently. There are some in The Challenge, for one, and another is Being John Malkovich---which gets my vote for Worst Score To Listen To With Headphones.Shaun

Is there any difference between the two Silva versions of this album?...other than pops or dropouts (I have the Silva release from when it originally came out and I never noticed this).

Regarding glitches on soundtrack releases...Jonathan Little's expectations from record companies:
I understand that some recordings have masters that have deteriorated over the years (most stuff prior to the 70s, I guess.) But, it seems the recent stuff people have been hearing isn't related to the masters at all...
When I go into Borders/etc. or online to purchase this music, I'm usually paying about $20 a pop after tax or shipping. (Collecting them just like bottle caps, I guess.
) With this rather heafty amount of money for what's typically around a half-hour of music, I expect the compact disc to be free of audio artifacts. It would also be nice if there were decent liner notes (instead of useless images from the movie) and a picture of the composer (after all, didn't this guy/gal write the music?!?!) It would be interesting to see a Shania Twain album out there without her picture all over it -- but that's another topic.

NP: Eiger Sanction... Great music and it sounds pretty decent, too (35 minutes) -- Stay away from the movie, it has not aged very well at all.

OK, I listened to the FIRST issue of Supergirl on Silva Screen and there ARE glitches! Well, at least one. It's in track 12, like Matthew said. Damnit!Shaun

FYI,Yes indeed there is a slight digital distortion in TRACK 12 "The Monster Tractor" cue, to be honest until it came up here it's never been mentioned since this CD was issued in 1993.
As for the other "Glitches", what you are hearing in many cases is "Room Noise", people moving or instruments making noises while they're being played,etc...
The same thing is also true of "The Challenge", the orchestra was a restless during those sessions and you can hear it.
Also sometimes you can hear the click track bleed through the some of the players headsets as well.
I hope this answers your questions.posted 05-25-2000 11:35 AM PT (US)

I am just glad it is not a problem with the new issue, since I have it on order. However I will say, that the CDR I have of the original Silva release sounded perfectly fine to me. Then again I rarely notice the so-called glitches in most scores.

What I'd like to ask is, how many of you usually hear the background noise or glitches in these scores?

There's a glitch in Gerhardt's CE3K suit. I had become so used to it that when I got a recording by Williams (on the Spielberg/Williams Collaboration), I always was surprised that it isn't there.
NP: Some short compositions by a friend.

My vote for Worst Soundtrack Glitch of All Time: SECRET OF NIMH's BIG sound dropout during "Moving Day." On the LP and CD both, so it's probably a flaw in the original recording, and a damned bizarre one.
