    Hey all,

If you will, please take the time to read an interview with Mr Zimmer over at the Gladiator page of
    Spielberg-Dreamworks.com....

Jawad who did the interviews and runs the website is a friend of mine and was thrilled to be able to interview Hans (who is in the UK right now). It was a phone interview of about 25 mins, and for the most part questions submitted were from fans.

Fans of the movie/score (do NOT let this become a petty "oh this movie/score sucked" thread, I see pleanty of them thanks) will be interested in the stuff said about the DVD which Jawad and I were hoping he would respond to, and he did.

You'll also be interested in the TRUTH about a couple of films, especially one, that he is NOT actually signed to score yet.

    Check it out!

    Dan (UK)

Glad to see that the one score is "more than a rumor." Can wait for that one.

I read the article and frankly, I don't understand most of it. First of all, we all know that Zimmer didn't do Das Boot. Secondly, there's a line of questioning that I just didn't grasp. Maybe somebody else can help.

    5. What is your favorite track from Gladiator?

My favorite track is "Am I Not Merciful?" On the soundtrack the first 13 minutes features a big overture where every theme is given away for the entire movie. It is my favorite because when Commodus finds out that his sister betrayed him, his reason to live is destroyed. Just because of that I decided to make it a new theme and I love the way it turns the movie dark.

(OK, that's all well and good, but read on...)

    6. Why was it not included, and what do you think the chances are of us seeing that on a possible future release of your music?

(Did he skip a question here? What's he talking about?)
Will there be additional music that did not make it to the film available on DVD or another version of 'Gladiator' soundtrack?

It was on the soundtrack because it was like an action cue. It looks great on the big screen with moving images but to put it on the soundtrack alone would change the meaning of the music. I might release it later on if I can mix it up and give it a feel of picture as well. It just doesn't play well without images.

    Is it just me?

    Confused,
    Shaun

Shaun - I'm pretty sure that Zimmer was simply restating the question to make sure he had heard it right (I've done it before). That's what I got out of it.

But the interviewer's question reads "Why was it NOT included...?", meaning "Am I Not Merciful?" Then Zimmer replies, "It's not on the soundtrack because....."

"Am I Not Merciful?" IS on the soundtrack, so that's what's so confusing about the question and the answer. Was Hans not listening to the question, or was it the interviewer who wasn't?

Either way, Am I Not Confused?

    Shaun
