Okay, today's the day MYSTERY ALASKA is released on DVD and VHS. All I'm asking is that those of you who haven't heard this score, RENT the movie and listen to it.Although I liked the movie, this isn't a JUST MOVIES posting. I only want your comments on the score.
Of course, if the movie ruins the score for you, then you can say that, but I don't think that will be the case.
My intent here is to get the attention of music producers who frequent this message board so that one of them will realize he or she can make some money off producing this soundtrack. Or, if possible, maybe Carter Burwell will send me a CDR copy on the side (I promise I won't allow any copying of my copy, Mr. Burwell!).
(You may also vote on whether the Little Richard version of the "Star Spangled Banner" be included in the release.)

I finally saw Mystery Alaska on DVD this weekend, what a great movie. The acting was great the scenery was beautiful and the story was really fun.Burwell's score was so perfect, when in the hell will the academy start to recognize good music.

I have to agree with everything written above, and I'll add that this score is absolutely EPIC. The Carter Burwell scores I've grown to love are usually very quiet, very subtle and somewhat delicate. Up to now, my favorite has been "Gods and Monsters," but "Mystery, Alaska" has shown me a different side of Burwell's talents.During the big hockey game, I kept thinking how much the music would enhance a gladiatorial arena scene...and, of course, set me to thinking all the wrong thoughts I don't want to think about "Gladiator."
I loved "Mystery, Alaska" and the score is fantastic.

oh Ron, that's just evil!
Now I'M thinking about the gladiatorial possibilities of Burwell!but the question remains:
Burwell is referred to, I think in the Gods & Monstersliner notes actually, as someone who prefers to score smaller films.
Would he have done Gladiator ?NP -- The VIPs, Miklos Rozsa

I, too, thought the MYSTERY ALASKA score deserved an Oscar nomination. And if I had been a member of the academy, I would have voted it as best score of 1999.I think it is the best of 1999, but that's only from one listening experience -- in Dolby Digital at the theater.
I'll have to listen to it several times to see how it stands up against my other 1999 favorites, GALAXY QUEST, THE MUMMY, THE THIRTEENTH WARRIOR and THE PHANTOM MENACE.

LOTS of competition for your entertainment dollar this weekend. But take time to rent and listen to the music of MYSTERY ALASKA.
You won't regret it -- except you might get as frustrated as I have that this score has not been released.

I'd really love to see this, particularly with all you guys have written about the score. Alas, it's not even hit the cinema's here in the UK yet.

All right now, everyone's seen all the latest releases, GLADIATOR, DINOSAUR, MI: 2.Nothing new is out in theaters except a lame Martin Lawrence comedy. And there's nothing but reruns on TV.
This weekend would be a good time to go out and rent MYSTERY ALASKA and check out one of the best scores (if not THE best score) of 1999.
