Hi gang, I've managed to get some audio clips up of the following soundtracks:
Battlefield Earth
I Dreamed of Africa
Up at the Villa
Journey of Man (IMAX)
Very impressed with the score from Journey of Man. Maurice Jarre fans should be pleased with I Dreamed of Africa, although the film will suffer an early death (Basinger should have stopped while she was ahead!). Pino Donaggio returns with Up at the Villa, apparently an early twentieth century love story, featuring an almost beautiful score, washed in strings, rinsed in strings, and dried in strings. Battlefield Earth's score on CD is quite choppy with most selections not hitting the two-minute mark; there are few interesting moments in the score (the main theme is somewhat striking), but nothing not heard before.Just a couple of thoughts on some of these.
Hey, have you noticed the "one-click" ratings system now in place in the MovieMusic database? Rate all of your most-liked and most-hated CDs to help others in their buying, and to see who ultimately comes out on top! View the complete ratings here:

That's it for now. I've enjoyed reading everyone's comments on movie music here on these boards. Let's keep it going!

Before I forget, every single one of the 2,000+ soundtracks in the MovieMusic database can be reviewed by YOU! So, if you haven't already, get in there and write a few words on your favorite soundtracks. Write many words if you like. There are hardly any restrictions at all.For all the soundtrack reviews that come in, they are listed on this page for about a month and a half:

A few more soundtrack clips from some of this week's releases are now online:Maurice Jarre's Sunshine
Randy Edelman's Passion of Mind
Ryko's Hamlet song soundtrack
Jarre's score for Sunshine contains one of the best themes I've heard this year. The film is some three hours long - all we get on the soundtrack CD is a wee 36 minutes. Not to really fret, though, this album is a well-polished presentation of the major themes in the movie, which are quite a refreshment from all the Gladiator/Battlefield Earth/Dinosaur-type scores. Jarre's main theme for Sunshine is an uplifting piece of music, but not for everyone. Again, one of my favorite themes of the year thus far. Give it a listen.Edelman's Passion of Mind is acceptable Edelman. A nice melody, underwritten with plenty of synth. This is the kind of score that fits the over-cliched term, "captures [or sets] the mood of the movie." Nothing new, just a nice little Edelman romance score.
That's it for now. Time to check in and prepare for a busy week ahead. Best to everyone!

Yes, Tim. I am going to get the total time listed eventually. I may even give update access to MovieMusic.com members so we can add the running time of older releases - it would be great if you guys could help out there! What do you think?PeterK

As I said at my MMDB thread - I'd help where I can. I don't think I'm good at writing reviews - that's why there isn't one by me - but I'd happily add track listings, album credits etc.NP: Disclosure (Ennio Morricone)
