Well, the film in which I star has finally been put out on the net. To watch it, simply click on the link below. It'll take you to the site where all of this year's student films are listed. MY (our) film is called "Fortapte Karer's Kåk" (directly translated as "Condo of the Lost Guys"). It's the one with my crazy, "Jack Nicholson-in-THE-SHINING"-like look. You'll need to have Quicktime, and I strongly recommend that you select the "Beste kvalitet" (best quality) option - it will give you a bigger picture and MUCH better resolution.
The film lasts 5 minutes and 18 seconds, and I'm sorry that it's all in Norwegian. You sort of lose some of the points, but any feedback on my excellent Method acting (
) would be much appreciated!Ok, I'm ready to make a fool out of myself now:

Oh, and please remember that the film was made with NO BUDGET WHATSOEVER (not a cent/krone), in case you should see it and think: "What a piece of crap!" or something like that.

Well I think it's funny.
I don't understand any on the words except "Hi" but I think I know whats going on.
You both like a that girl, and hate each other for it, and thats pretty much an international thing :-)Is it possible to add english subtitles?
I don't get the end. What does she say on the phone?posted 05-08-2000 09:20 AM PT (US)

Where did you get the music you used in that film? Did you have to make it yourself?

Hey, Kris and Tim, thanks for the feedback. What she says in the end is something like:
-"Yeah, hi, this is Eva. I've got this splendid apartment at the westend. Plenty of room for the three of us."
Yeah, I know, it's a lame point (a satirical kick at the tense housing situation[?] in Oslo these days), as is the entire plot of the film, but the main ingredient of the film is really the two male characters: Lasse (me) and Geir (the other one).
The breakfast idea was born from watching the famous breakfast scene in CITIZEN KANE. We also satirize over certain norwegian film "classics" or "turkeys", especially through our dialogue.
I'm afraid there will be no subtitles, but maybe I'll write a step-by-step translation eventually. I suspect the film looks silly without those lines, though.
The recurring theme (turning sour as things get equally sour) is an old Beethoven piece (I cannot remember the title right now), so we could use it without copyright trouble. It was performed by myself!
The end title theme is an old, folksy Brahms piece as performed (intentionally badly) by a gypsie group.

Had problems with my QuickTime plugin yesterday, I'll try again later. Or is there a way to directly download it and play it from my harddisk? "Save target as" didn't work, probably because of some sort of streaming mechanism.NP: Looking for Richard (Howard Shore)

Hmm. Did you try the "save target" with both options (both the regular and the "beste kvalitet")? If that didn't work, I seriously don't know. I guess you just have to figure out the Quicktime problem (I, too, am unable to watch these films here at the university, as I'm not even allowed to download quicktime and store it on the harddisk). Luckily (or unluckily), though, I've seen the film before. I hope you can fix it.[This message has been edited by Thor (edited 09 May 2000).]

Well, I'm dying to see your acting debut, Thor, but keep getting a "cannot connect to remote server" error. Must be down. And I'm still waiting for your "young hotshot list" over at the "who have you recently discovered" thread. Tap, tap, tap....

I got "connection timed out" several times in a row ... should have played it yesterday, the site was visibly up then. C'mon, don't keep us in suspense! (Unless in some weird way this is part of the presentation.)

Tim: You don't have to copy the thing onto your hard disk to see it. If you have quicktime, you can see it online. As for the server, I believe it was down yesterday. I have nothing to do with the media web pages where the film is put up, but I remember not being able to access it myself yesterday, so that must be it. Try it again now. It should work. And once again, I urge EVERYONE to see the film with the "beste kvalitet" option - if your connection can handle it.
debi: I will go right over to the "discovered" thread and add a few "hot shot"-names!

Oh, and since there are no subtitles in the film, I'm working on a brief translation of the dialogue - to be posted here in a not-too-distant future....

As far as I know, the plugin caches the whole video file on your harddisk before it starts playing it. That's the reason why you can keep the LOTR trailer on your drive, too.

Veldig bra film, Thor! For you guys who don't speak Norwegian: Very good film! It took me about an hour to download it, but it was worth the wait. I liked the way you went bananas because of this girl, Jack Nicholson would be proud indeed! What format was it filmed/edited in? And how long did you spend making it? I also liked the way you guys used the typewriter at the beginning and the end credits.
I love watching low budget stuff like this. It shows you don't need money to be creative, something Hollywood doesn't understand at all. Another summer of blockbusters is here and therefore also the worst movies of the year. But hey, hopefully we'll hear some decent soundtracks along the way.
Meanwhile, let's applaud Thor and all the others who are making stuff worth seeing.

Marian: Oh, I see. Well, I guess you're right. I don't want to pretend that I know something about internet and computers, when I clearly don't!
Joe: Glad you liked it. It means a lot, especially coming from you.
Stefan: Now, where "i granskauen" have you been all along?
Another Norwegian on this board is very rare (and welcome) indeed. I'm glad to see you here, and I hope we can hear more from you in the future. Our movie was filmed with regular BETA equipment. We edited the film digitally with a professional program (the title escapes me right now, but it was software worth "hundreds of thousands of kroner" according to our teacher).
The film was part of the practicum here at the university. We had TWO WEEKS(!!) from conceiving the idea to world premiere. A hard run, indeed, further complicated by the fact that the 10 member crew had equal say (except for the two days with actual shooting, where the director had the last word). Pre and post-production were conceived in plenum.
Looking through the film, I recognize its flaws and its "cheapish" look, but it's nice to have been a part of it nevertheless.
I see from your profile that you're a filmmaker too, Stefan. What films have you made?
