AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE DEFACTO COORDINATOR!Before you all start whipping yourselves into a frenzy, expect an official info request/progress report by Saturday, when I'm all moved out of the dorm and equipped to work on coordination. Hold tight people! I'll be posting information guidelines very soon, as well as useful info about hotels, contacts, etc! Thanks.

Marian, if I had me way there'd be all-expenses-paid trips for everyone whether you're coming from Australia or Norway or Germany or Brazil or the United Kingdom or the United States or even barely a stone's throw from Detroit. What a 'road picture' that'd make! Things the way they are we'll have to settle for A Clean, Well-Lighted Designated Conscientious Note-taker of Repute who will undoubtedly receive plenty of help before the weekend is over. And I'm sure that by the time you've finished reading, you'll feel like you were right there beside 'em.

Anyone wnat to take a tape, minidisc, or DAT recorder and record the concert for those of us who can't make it?

Then I guess I should not drop the name of someone who isn't coming who asked me to tape it (perhaps this person was kidding) (I kind of think this person was not -- he or she hoped I might actually go through with it, I suspect ... and frankly, I'd love to hear such a tape, but I don't have the equipment even to PRETEND to try and do the recording properly)Frankly, the sound would be terrible. That doesn't mean I don't want to hear a recording, though.
NP: THE BIRTH OF JAPAN (Akira Ifukube) (now in that case, I witnessed someone doing a bootleg recording of his GODZILLA VS. KING GHIDRAH score in 1991, and I think all of us were proud that none of us ratted the fellow out -- no, it wasn't me doing the video.)

I guess that is how those recordings of Goldsmith concerts (such as the Seville and Barcelona concerts) get made. With a portable DAT recorder (Sony makes some that can fit in your pocket) and some high quality small microphones (such as the ones Core Sound makes), it would be possible to make a fairly good quality recording while sitting in the audience. Not that I'm serious about actually asking someone to record it. A recording will probably make its way out, anyway.

Remember, this is even done with movies. Some newsgroups are full of movie files recorded in the cinema with a small video camera. Horrible quality, of course.NP: Sinfonia antartica (Ralph Vaughan Williams)

Timmer!
Awesome, man! I actually recommended something good! Which version did you get? The LA Phil/Salonen recording? I have that one and another one (which has a cooler cover, but the performance is really sloppy), and prefer the Salonen version. How 'bout the last part of Night Of The Mayas? Wow!Thanks for mentioning this! You made my day!

As far as the note-taking and Official Report of the upcoming Event -- the recently scarce Hatfield's already dropped my name, and I am somewhat resigned to being the Official Notetaker. If I am so ordained, that is. (I'll take notes any damn way, anointed or not. I have so few hobbies as it is.)

Hey, that only talks about the Londaon concerts. I still don't know what's on the program for Detroit. Would love to get a sneak-peek at music from Hollow Man at this concert.

Hey, there's an echo. Let it be of the Patton trumpets-kind. The more I think about it the more I get the feeling I'm gonna crash the Sunday concert, too. Hope they have a few loose boards or knotholes or whatever.
