Does anyone know what the lyrics are on the Battle of Fort Wagner track? I know the rest of the CD is wordless boys choir.

If the rest of the CD is worthless to you (and BTW, that boy's choir stuff is lifted directly from Prokofiev's far superior "Ivan the Terrible" anyway,) I recommend you abandon "Charging Fort Wagner" as well. Have you ever heard Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana?" If not, I have a surprise for you ...[This message has been edited by Wedge (edited 03 May 2000).]

Prokofiev? Orff? Sound like foreigners to me. How many movies have they done? More or fewer than Giorgio Moroder? (Now he's not a foreigner, he's NATURALIZED!)(I know Wedge, I know, GO GET IVAN THE TERRIBLE ... I tried to the other week, but they didn't have it ... REALLY, I PROMISE!)
NP: GLORY (I'm KIDDING! nothing's on -- but fingers go randomly into the pile and come up -- huh, Goldsmith's MUMMY, why not.)
P.S. The end of the week draws nigh. Time to start our Detroit co-LAY-tion (as Ian Holm puts it.)

Don't just buy ANY old "Ivan the Terrible," Roc. I've seen four different versions online, but for best value, order the VoxBox 2-CD set that also includes the "Alexander Nevsky" cantada and the "Lieutenant Kije" suite. I can't imagine any performance topping the sheer majesty and power of Leonard Slatkin and the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. You can get it right here and now at cdnow. Go here. Right here. Order it right now. Want to know how much it'll cost you? $9.49! That's right! All this glory for less than TEN BUCKS! That's 2-CDs of GLORY! Real GLORY! You could listen to the crappy cdnow soundclips, but you don't want to. That would spoil it. You trust me. So you'll go right over to the handy clickable link and order it. Right now.
just so you don't have to move your eyes any more than absolutely necessary.
Well?
What are you still sitting around here for?
Go!
GO!

Since not anyone of the ipeople above wanted to actually answer your question - they just wanted a reason to bash Horner - I'll do it. The lyrics are taken from various parts of the Requiem mass. Do a search on the Internet for Requiem lyrics and you would be able to find them.Andy

HA! I did not know that, Andy! Thanks!
And by the way, I WOULD have answered the original question if I'd had any idea what the answer was. I'm actually much more interested in giving credit to the original masters than bashing Horner.PS - Go.

All this glory for less than TEN BUCKS!Is it still safe to buy at CDNow? I've heard that they got serious financial problems, and that orders don't arrive (and VISA doesn't care to get your money back). From the past, I've got very good experiences with CDNow, so I hope they're still all right. And I'm very interested in that CD, too.
Oh, BTW, if you want to save additional 10% on every order at CDNow (and several other online stores, that is), head over to http://www.ebates.com/ and get an account there. Or rather, do me a favor and use this URL: http://www.ebates.com/index.jhtml?referrer=msched , because that way, I'll get additional percentages for every order YOU make (but you don't get less).

There ARE lyrics to the music in "Glory." I can't make them out because a.) the mastering on the CD isn't very good (a friend of mine had the LP, and it sounded MUCH better) and b.) because I haven't listened to "Glory" since I discovered the aforementioned Prokofiev film scores.Andy, it is not neccesarily Horner-bashing to mention his influences... it's giving credit where credit is due. And, think about it. If you like "Glory," maybe you'll like these works.
Wedge is definitely right about the Vox discs. The performance and sound are great, and it's a great set. I can't believe how many amazing recordings are on budget labels simply because they weren't recorded digitally.

Of course it's ok to list his influences, but that wasn't what the original poster was asking about.Andy

Not sure about the Wagner track, but I do know that the intro says "Blow the horn, play the fife (phife, fiphe?), keep the trumpets blowing...(repeat)"

Aaron, that's what I think it sounds like too, but I can't quite confirm that.A fife, incidentally, makes perfect sense as it is a flute-like woodwind instrument that is used in war all the time. It abounds in the "Glory" score.
