    Oh, and I almost forgot:

    Just in:

    * MORE (Pink Floyd)

Not an instrumental score per se, but a psychedelic music oddysey from the early days of PF (1969) to an equally psychedelic movie.

So far have got The Challenge on order. After that, I don't know. I did find Deep Blue Sea quite cheap recently, so I may get that too. For more, I'll just have to wait & see.
But I'm going down to London for the Goldsmith concerts later this month, so that's pretty much used up all my film music budget for the month. Ah well.

I'm here at the college library, so I haven't picked up the new releases yet... but I should have the following by the end of the day:

    Dinosaur (JNH)
    Battlefield Earth (Cmiral)
    Arabian Nights (Harvey)
    I Dreamed of Africa (Jarre)

...let's hope Best Buy or Circuit City decided to order them. If not, they will have a very frustrated customer on their hands.

    Battlefield Earth (Cmiral)
    James Horner-Suites and Themes (Horner..duh)
    Small Soldiers Complete (Goldsmith)
    Stuart Little Complete (Silvestri)

Still undecided on "I Dreamed of Africa"...someone please tell me how it is.

Grrrr... you guessed it. I only found Dinosaur.

Battlefield Earth, Arabian Nights, and I Dreamed of Africa are no where to be found! Dinosaur is helping me stay calm... but I really wish I could have found these.

Perhaps Tower has it... that's going to a lot of trouble, though. Downtown Dallas... ugh.

Well either way for $1.99 it was not an bad deal.

Actually I wanted to say thanks for suggesting it. I was thinking of getting it for quite some time, though never thought much about it. However after getting Titus and a few others of his work, I said what the hell.

    So any ways, thanks.

BTW, would you happen to know if there are any other Goldenthal albums like this?

well, uh, those are actually classical works. Othello is a ballet he wrote several years ago. I'm not sure what exactly Juan Darien is, but one would assume it is a Latin mass?

    sabbey/JJH:

JUAN DARIEN is a modernistic "theater score" accompanying Julie Taymor's avantgardistic play. It's in the vein of a Latin mass, yes, with some lyrics in spanish and features Goldenthal himself as a gritty barytone (remember his opening howls from COBB?).

There's not a big orchestra, but it's superbly original, incorporating vietnamese flutes and whatnot. It takes a few listenings to get used to, but it's worth it eventually. Sound quality is excellent.

Yes, Tim, MEDDLE is one of my favourite albums from PF. It's the closest thing rock gets to film music, isn't it? Actually, I only miss UMMAGUMMA (2CD), OBSCURED BY CLOUDS and those psychedelic PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN and SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS to have a complete Pink Floyd collection. I'll get there, though...

a very proftiable day at the used CD store.

For one thing, I found Poledouris' On Deadly Ground new for less than 10 bucks.

And next I purchased 2 Jerome Moross classical albums, both on Koch.

One has Frankie & Johnny (1938)/Biguine (1934)/ A Tall Story for Orchestra (1938)/ & Concerto for Flute With String Orchestra (1978). haven't heard that one yet.

The one I am playing now, Koch 3-7188-2 H1,
contains his Symphony no 1 (1941-42), something the Last Judgement (1953) [always misspelled -- no 'e'], & Variations on a Waltz for Orchestra (1946/1966).

Right now, I am playing the Symphony No 1. It is VERY enjoyable. I wish I had more Moross film scores to compare these works to, but as it is, the symphony is very Coplandesque in the first movement, as I would expect from an American composer around 1941. Very good playing by the London Symphony Orchestra on this CD (don't they always rock?).

Well I see some familiar names on this board
and being this was one of my titles at the old FSM I thought I would start here.
Been in messageboard limbo for a # of months
but that didn,t stop the buying, trading and
    recording for a min.
    1. Elizabeth Taylor in London. Goes good with
my Loren in Rome Lp by Barry also. Added
Born Free to my Barry list too.
    2. Hurricane by Nino Rota. Hawaiian guitar
    meets the godfather, interesting LP.
    3. Rocketship X-M. Just had to have this.
This low budget space epic has always been
a movie memory not forgotton and one
memory was the music during the mars cave
men attack. How many movies were made then
where everyone dies. How many soundtracks
so you have by Ferde Grofe.
    4. Toy Story 1 and 2. The Paper and Parenthood. I love Randy more all the time.
    5. Town Without Pity/Night Passage , The
    Alamo and Friendly Persuasion. Tiomkin
    selection get better.
    6. Last Starfighter and Remo Williams. When
Safan is good, he is really really good.
    7. My mancini selection got even better with
    Switch, Glass Menagerie and Lifeforce.

    For about $5 each:
    • The Essential Bernstein (Candide Overture, Selections from West Side Story, On the Town & Mass, Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, On the Town (Three Dance Episodes)
Some of them conducted by Bernstein himself, with the New York Philharmonic. I don't like the songs too much, but I love the Candide overture.
    • Slavonic Dances (Dvorak; Berliner Philharmoniker/Lorin Maazel)

And, I've found a used CD bin! The first one I've ever seen. So, I also got the following, for the same price:

    • Ed Wood (Howard Shore; the only CD from this list which I've heard before in the movie)
    • Donnie Brasco (Patrick Doyle)
    • The Edge (Jerry Goldsmith)
    • Disclosure (Ennio Morricone; this one was even cheaper: $3)
    • The Fly 2 (Christopher Young; I don't know ANYTHING by Young, but after the praise coming from Rocco, I guessed it should be worth $5)

They also had 2 copies of Fierce Creatures, but I have that one already.
