Sure, although I think this one was $5 (although it's also worth that; I got my copy for the same price). It's quite a way to that store I mentioned, but I'll go there again now that I know they have a used bin, so if they still have it next time I could pick it up for you.

Please tell us what you thought of THE FLY II, Marian. I hope you won't be sorry. That's an excellent score to start with, one of his most accessible. If you like it (I can't imagine why you wouldn't), keep your eyes peeled next for his HELLRAISER, HELLBOUND, CINEMA SEPTET (a double CD from Intrada), BAT-21, and HARD RAIN. Oh, among inevitable others. Since you like Rosenman, you might even cotton to some of Chris's more esoteric works, such as THE VAGRANT, which used to be available for VERY cheap from Intrada. (99 cents at one point, but last time I looked, they upped it to $3.99. Still a bargain, though.)Today I bought -- sight unheard, so to speak -- a six-dollar copy of a Label X issue of Lalo Schifrin music, entitled CONTINUUM JOURNEYS VOYAGE. The first two pieces are concert works, and the last is a twenty-three minute suite from his Oscar-nominated score for VOYAGE OF THE DAMNED. (He lost to THE OMEN. You probably remember, but my pedantry sets in: the other nominees were Jerry Fielding for THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES and the deceased Bernard Herrmann for OBSESSION and TAXI DRIVER.)
For some reason, I haven't yet plunked the Schirin disc into the machine ... instead, I'm listening to the SPFM excerpts of Goldsmith's FLIM-FLAM MAN (why that one? I have the longer FSM version! Yet here I am. I think I'll forward it to the MAGIC section. There, I just did it.)

Your H'ness, because of the amount of new CDs, I've only heard it once so far, but it sounded good to say the least. Definitely no disappointment, and probably much more. I'll keep your recommendations in mind.Also got today: Looking for Richard (Howard Shore), recommended by Swashbuckler, for slightly less than $10 (that's about 3/5 of the usual score CD price around here).
Now, with 8 new CDs and not even having heard them all, I really shouldn't enter a record store in the near future. Oh, except for Fierce Creatures, of course, if you still want it, JJH.

Picked up these at the post office yesterday:* RETURN OF THE JEDI (RCA 2CD, "BOOK" VS.)
My favourite score of all time. Yes, I know it's controversial, but I like this better than...
* EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (RCA 2CD, "BOOK" VS.)
...which also is a masterpiece, of course, but lacks the "directness" of ROTJ. What can I say about these scores that has not already been said?
* CLOSE ENCOUNTERS... (expanded)
Brooding atonality coupled with unashamed tonality. Yet another Williams opus.
* AMAZING STORIES (Williams/Delerue)
Stereotypical Williams without flair, but excellent as always. Delerue conjures up delightful melodies with a reflective touch - as always.
* TALES FROM THE CRYPT (various)
Disappointing synth drones, the composer names considered (Horner, Broughton etc.), but Elfman's theme stands out.
* MILLENIUM (Zimmer)
More synth drones. A little better than the above, though. Ethnic, but lacking the powerful integration w/orchestra, such as POWER OF ONE, BEYOND RANGOON, LION KING etc.
* BLADE RUNNER (Vangelis)
Probably the one and only time I've bought a score because of the movie (are you reading, Howard?). Beautiful soundscapes that suffer a bit from album presentation.
* EL CID (Rozsa, Sony release)
Temperamental and flamboyant, at times hinting at the religious sound I love so much. A classic.
* BABYLON 5, VOL. 2 (Franke)
Great, militaristic main titles, and episode scores with a groove (a little "unstable", musically, though). Wonderful incorporation of choir.

After several months of not buying anything since the Superman set came out, I finally added some new titles.1-For Your Eyes Only (Conti)
2-The Egyptian (Herrmann/Newman)
3-The Trouble With Harry (Herrmann)Just placed an order with FSM for Beneath The Planet Of The Apes and Omega Man. I really don't know why I picked the latter, because after watching the film again the other night I really think the score undermines the film. Probably another case of my getting something for the packaging and "completeness" as opposed to the actual music.

Made a "soundtrack" CD from some MIDI files a friend of mine composed for a computer project called "Teach/Me". We were both working on that one, in fact, I'm still working on the "sequel". I think he could be a very good film composer, but he doesn't want to compose professionally.

Got Dinosaur; have listened to it twice, and probably won't give it another try for a while.I picked up about five Roy Budd scores the other day, and ordered five or six more from Amazon. Some good stuff, of the inoffensive 70's sort but not overly cliched.
I haven't given the new Marco Polo Hans Salter release a good enough listen, but it sounds great. Ditto for the Screen Archives release of Friedhofer's Broken Arrow.
The Omega Man was a great purchase. I've got Beneath the Planet of the Apes coming to me, as well as the 2-CD Hook release, Supergirl and The Challenge (even though I'm not a huge Goldsmith fan). The post office is waiting for me to pick up my copy of Sisters on CD.
There were the assorted classical purchases, too, but only Marian would be interested. Another damaging, but thrilling, month.

Last Wednesday was a very good day. I got in the post:Contract On Cherry Street
The Omega Man
The latest issue of Film Score Monthly
Contract On Cherry Street is great. This sounds like late 70s Jerry of course (particularly Capricorn One - those vaulting trombone ostinatos; and Coma - that very notey classical sounding piano), but it's also in many ways different from typical Jerry. The nods to Bartok are more extreme than ever (compare this with ...what's it called, anyway, the Bartok piece that opens Being John Malkovich), and this for a TV Movie! The use of trombones instead of the usual trumpet really distinguishes this, in fact never has Jerry growled so much nor had his brass squirt to such a degree.
The Omega Man: Good Lord, what a great score! Film music doesn't HAVE to ape classical music! It bogs down for about three minutes during some extented spook-fest synthesizer meanderings, but this is still wonderful, and the sound is superb. By the way, don't forget to zap forward to about one minute after the end of the last track to hear Lukas' special treat: Ron Grainer speaks!
FSM mag: still The Bible.
NP- Spanish league football. Deportivo de La Coruña is going to win! That's my team (I'm only an hour away!)

My Great Train Robbery DVD finally arrived yesterday. It's one of my favourite movies - and scores, but I still don't have the CD. But: While the image quality on the DVD is not overwhelming, the sound is impressive. I think I'll have to make a soundtrack CD from that one, although it will include some dialogue excerpts and noises. Still, most of the score seems to be placed at scenes without dialogue. And I'd bet that the score on the DVD sounds better than the CD release, because it sounds REALLY good.Also got The Man in the Iron Mask from a friend who didn't need it anymore. I think it'll be better if I don't comment on this one now...
