I remember reading quite a while ago that there was a bootleg of "The 13th Warrior," one that came out before the movie (and accompanying official release from Varese Sarabande) did...

Apparently, although there was some overlap, there were some cues on the bootleg that were not on the official release, and vice versa.

Although the official album has a generous (for a Goldsmith score) 55 minutes worth of music, I was wondering what was on the boot, considering that:
a.) this is one of my favorite of recent Goldsmith scores, I think it sounds more like something he would have composed in, oh, say 1985.
b.) the re-editing of the film chopped up the score, and I am trying to get an idea of the original structure of the film.

There are 31 cues available (at least from me), and it's missing only one or two toward the end (plus "Valhalla" from the film, which was all percussion and ambience). You ain't missin' much, but it's still really good. I was actually shocked to get the Varese disc and learn that they hadn't included what was my favorite cue (which I called, "The Brave"; sounds like ship sailing on foggy seas music, but it's for the Volunteers scene in the film, before Antonio needs to join). Oh well.

Can someone explain to me why that incredible piece of music that start the second half of "Valhalla/Viking Victory" was cuted from the last battle sequence?

Man... what a waist of film score!!!
