I've been looking forward to the release of this CD, but after listening to the tracks posted on this site, I'm beginning to wonder if I should plunk my money down on it.First, the title track is not the same OST that was in the movie. I recorded this title track off the movie back in the 80s and I remember a friend of mine asking where I got the recording as he was never able to find that precise recording anywhere -- especially on the soundtrack.
Many of you may remember there were some sound manipulations that gave this track an underwatery sound (sorry that's the best description I could come up with). It doesn't appear to be present on this recording.
Also, the three tracks I selected for playing off the Internet are all variations of the "James Bond Theme." I'm beginning to wonder if Conti did anything other than just play around with this theme.
I never bought the LP, now I'm wondering if I'm going to buy the CD.
Maybe I'll just wait and rent the movie and listen to the music that way first.

Marc! Don't hesitate. First of all, it's Bond! You can't resist 007. No one can! Second of all, it's incredibly nostalgic (not to mention eclectic)! There are only a few tracks that play around w/ the James Bond Theme. They are the following:2. A Drive In The Country (last 60 seconds)
4. Melina's Revenge (last 50 seconds)
6. St. Cyril's Monastery (very subtle)
9. Submarine (fully emerges, great rendition)
**Bonus Tracks / Suites**
13. Gunbarrel... (obvious use of the theme)
16. Goodbye, Countess... (makes a cool, brief appearance)
19. Run Them Down... (strings *brief*)That's 7 out of the 19 tracks on the disc. Nothing to complain about... Of course, why would anyone complain about the Bond theme? There is never enough.
To me, the tracks that DO include the Bond theme are always the highlights (obviously). I love to hear how different composers use what I consider to be one of the greatest themes ever written.Keep in mind that the tracks listed above DO have their own thematical foundations. So here's what you should do: Drop whatever you are doing, rush out the door w/ out even saying bye to the kids... get in the car and go get the cd! It's a lot of fun and very rewarding to those who truly love Bond film music.
Jeron
PS - I never thought I'd enjoy disco funk as much as I am... of course, that could just be because it's Bond............

Buy the record!
Usually, the opening title is edited and mixed much differently than the version on the soundtrack CD. The film version is shorter (TND and TWINE come to mind), while the soundtrack version is mixed for a single release, with the idea that it will get radio play.
I worked my tail off on this release. (I sequenced and edited all of the extra stuff) It's a really good Bond record, and any fan of the series will enjoy it.Chris Neel

First off, I am very pleased with the FYEO release. I have been waiting for this for years and WOW! what a great CD. Congrats Chris on a great job. Here's the thing. The track listing on the back of my copy is a little off. There are two track 3's. TAKE ME HOME and MELINA'S REVENGE are both listed as being track 3. Of course they aren't. I for one think this is kinda cool having typo on my disc. Does anyone else have this same thing? Chris, what's up?
Josh.

Yeah, I saw that too. Two #3's and no #5! Not to mention that Gonzales takes a DIVE not a DRIVE! They're all like that. If (When?) there is a second pressing, we'll fix it. Other than these(oops)examples, I'm glad you like the record.Chris

Yeah... DarthF, Octopussy has already been released on a very satisfying "deluxe" edition album through Ryko. It's in the same line of re-releases that FYEO is in.If you are wanting another release on top of this one, good luck! That's not gonna happen any time soon!

Nope, no video clips on this one. I guess that's alright though, cause we just had a special edition DVD release. Onelegger, I'd expect you to have already bought that boxed set and pre-ordered the one coming out in May!If both of us were ranked on the 007 fan-o-meter, I think we'd probably tie in regards to our fanaticism.

Octopussy, despite being rereleased by Ryko had no new music from the old version, and in fact was hindered by being one of the early selections with those annoying dialogue cues. Missing from Octopussy still is the gun barrel opening, the bit at the end of the teaser as Bond's plane runs out of gas and he lands and cheerily pulls up to the filling station, and then most missed of all is the travelogue set-up cue as Bond arrives in India.I enjoy the Living Daylights expanded version, and FYEO only should be nice but I think it's unfortunate that Octopussy is the only one that didn't get this treatment. It's my favorite Moore Bond film, and the best Barry score of the Moore era.

I really like the way this album came out. Along with "Living Daylights", it's the stick that any new re-releases should be measured by.Chris

I wish Ryko had rights to the other Bonds. Moonraker has some terrifc music, so has the other Bonds. I really hope EMI do something special!

I finally got FYEO at a sale price, I'm enjoying it very much. The bonus tracks sounds much more orchestral than the first 12 tracks. Now, EMI????? Bond remasters???? Expanded???

Well MarkI don't know what to say.
I have the CD because I'm a big fan of Bond.
But is not better that the Barry scores.
And I hate the Bond theme played by electric guitar.
The score is average.
I hope nobody is offended by this but...

But for entertainment value, FYEO certainly delivers. John Barry is still da man though.

I agree with meegle....it's awful!Apart from a few sparkling moments I think most of David Arnold's Bond music is rubbish too.
