I just got this score and I must say I love it. it is one of Barry's best (of course I say that about almost every Barry score it seems like).
I have never seen this cd before untill I bought it friday in Atlanta on my way home for Easter. then when I got back to Nashville today i saw it at Tower (and i go to tower all the time so I know they just put it on the shelf)
so what I want to know is: is this cd oop? is it an italian import that is hard to find? is ther some new release of it which explains whuy I have never seen it and then saw it twice in 4 days (in one place I frequeny at least once a week)in general what is the deal?
and what are your thoughts on the score itself if you feel so inclined to comment.
NP - Crow Salvation (that just ended - so now
NP - Phantom of The Opera (Morricone)

I also have King Kong, which I picked up several years ago at Tower. I don't know for sure, but because of coming from Italy, I would just guess it's a hard to get import.

Does this CD come from the same company, or whomeve, that put out the fabulous Black Hole/ Howard the Duck disc?NP -- Star Wars: The Phantom Menace; if it's so bad, why haven't I played the other scores as much in the last year? Am I crazy? don't answer

Nah we won't do that, but I might look at you like you're on crack or something....
I like it as well, but not as good as Steiner's though. Barry's Kong was my very first soundtrack I bought when I was the young age of 8. Sigh.....were did the years go?posted 04-25-2000 04:07 PM PT (US)

Greetings from the Bob Dole University record library in Doleville, Kansas. Where I just heard Barry's KING KONG. Timmer, you sure as hell don't have to apologize to me for preferring Barry to Steiner. Screw Steiner. Barry has more talent & subtlety in his left nostril than Steiner had in his entire dishwater-dull carcass.I like the cascading crystaline organ passages in "The Opening" & "Arrival". "Arrival" is a sweet track, but it's marred by the inclusion of that jungle drum. "Maybe My Luck Has Changed" reminds me of Graham Watt's complaint about Barry's occasional banality. "Sacrifice" is as it should be, but I found those rising bee-hive/maelstrom string chords to be pretty corny & hackneyed.
The piano echo-tinkle in "Arthusa" is a neat effect, but it's another banal tune. I realize that Barry has a serious harmonica fetishism, but I wish he had refrained from his brief indulgence in "Full Moon Domain". "Beauty Is A Beast" suffers from an atrocious recording job. (Somebody set the volume too high, which resulted in distorted strings.)
"Breakout to Captivity" introduces the major motif. That jungle percussion section sounds like it includes a kitchen sink. "Sacrifice" & "Breakout" both have a certain brief brass chord-sequence that I really love. "Kong Hits The Big Apple" is a painfully banal & uninspired pop-schlock tune. "Blackout in New York" is my fave track. It showcases that brilliant aforementioned chord sequence that's briefly heard in "Sacrifice" & "Breakout". I was deeply relieved to find out that Barry had the good sense to showcase that motif. Unfortunately, the record ends with a reprise of the profoundly banal "Arthusa".posted 04-25-2000 06:36 PM PT (US) Old Infopop Software by UBB
