    H Rocco.

Oh yes, there isn’t a ‘THE’ in LAST ACTION HERO – thanks.

As to THE MUMMY. Perhaps this was more a case of a movie administering an overdose (pleasant nevertheless) of eye-candy, rather than a complex maze of hidden depths. By that I mean there was so much going on in THE MUMMY that the visuals alone might make repeated viewings worthwhile, if not essential. I believe the same could be said of DEEP RISING. I have seen THE SHADOW twice, but found it disappointing both times, though others have said they have warmed to it after the first viewing.

When I saw LAST ACTION HERO for the first time in the cinema, I really didn’t take to it. I must admit I was a little prejudiced (based on reviews) when I walked into the cinema, and during the film I kept telling myself the movie was a self-satisfied and witless farrago. However, when I watched it the second time recently, I loved it. Perhaps more than anything, my attitude toward LAST ACTION HERO is overridingly PERSONAL.

To conclude, I’ve only seen it once, and though I’m not an habitual multi-viewer, in fact I only rarely watch the same movie twice, THE MUMMY is one of those movies where I would certainly welcome the opportunity to watch it again, though I wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way.

I think what it boils down to, H Rocco, is we each perceive cinema differently. People may broadly agree on something, such as our apparent agreement over Goldsmith’s fine work on THE MUMMY, but the reasons behind our appreciation and our ‘motives’ may be completely different.

Perhaps I shouldn’t have talked about specific examples when discussing movies that may or may not be worth watching more than once, as it is all subjective. I only used THE MUMMY, LAST ACTION HERO and THE SHADOW as PERSONAL examples to illustrate my opinion.

I liked all three films upon first viewing, but I simply love "The Mummy" more and more which each additional viewing. "Last Action Hero" I liked simply for the action, but I thought "The Shadow" was very good because it's what movie about superheros/crime-fighters should be like, like the first "Batman." If only they'd make more Shadow movies and no more Batman ones . . .

I enjoyed the soundtrack to The Phantom immensly, but I cannot find it anywhere... even Amazon.com has no record of it. I know there is one because the end of the movie says "soundtrack available on ..." but no stores that i know of carry it. Can anyone help me out? thank you so much! - brittany

    Brittany,

The Phantom CD is Out of print, but it pops up with fair regularity on eBay. That's how I got mine.

sometimes sellers don't list it under "David Newman," but simply something like The Phantom score CD. good luck to you! phenomenal score!

H - I agree that Leonard Maltin was hard on it (he also gave, what I thought was, an unjustly scathing review to CASPER). I also enjoyed that scene from THE SHADOW. I find myself laughing under my breath at it from time to time.

NP - The Phantom ("Ray Gets The Point")
