I just saw that weird statement in the Dead Again CD's credits again: "Special thanks to The Gang at Avenue L and 8th Street". Anybody knows who they are or what they did?

And what other examples of weird credits have you found on score CDs?

NP: Dead Again (Doyle; very good)

In the score credits for Waterworld James Newton Howard thanks Hans Zimmer. I have always wondered why he thanked him.

""Special thanks to The Gang at Avenue L and 8th Street""

Is where the Paramount Music Dept. is located at, Paramount as a rule doesn't allow people at the studio to be thanked, so this is a catch all term that the Paramount Lawyers allow.

The thanks to Hans Zimmer could be anything from thanking him for the use of Media Venture's studios at some point during scoring, providing some samples, or just saying Good Luck to JNH.

Can't think of any wacky credits on CDs, but in the film The Blues Brothers (I think) it says "God Music by Elmer Bernstein" (so, Chris K, as you can see, it wasn't my idea)!

I wish I could remember the title of the film that had a credit that read "Testicles by..."

Ah, I LOVE that one! Got a quite good recording on CD, but unfortunately it's in mono. Some time ago, I found an mp3 file of Finlandia. Fantastic performance and impressive sound quality, but unfortunately it doesn't give any information about the performers, so I'll never find it on CD.

The end credits for all those parody movies.

TOP SECRET with Val Kilmer (among many MANY others):
    Clapper
    Loader
    Clapper Loader
    Loader Clapper
    What the hell's a clapper?

    2nd 2nd 2nd Assistant Assistant Director

And who can forget the very end of the HOT SHOTS 2 credits when you hear: "HOT SHOTS, PART DUEX was filmed infront a live sutdio audience in Hollywood, California."

I think "clapper loader" refers to that guy who "claps" the board in front of the camera before each take, but I'm not sure. (Traditionally, if the cinematographer feels the director is being pigheaded about a particular shot, he will have the board turned UPSIDE DOWN, to signify that he was working under duress.)

2nd 2nd 2nd Assistant director -- those credits always amuse me, too.

Rocco - I now what a "clapper" and a "loader" is. What I listed was what was in the closing credits of TOP SECRET. It lists them separatley, then, as a joke, together like that, then says "What the hell's clapper." And 2nd 2nd 2nd Assistant director I'm sure was just a clever disguise for what was actually just the 2nd Assistant Director.

Lancelot - Does it actually say that about Varese on the CD?

Didn't remember the credits that clearly. However, "2nd 2nd 2nd" -- you WILL see credits like "Second Second Assistant Director," it seemed ENTIRELY POSSIBLE to me that they'd upped the numbers even further (I can't even understand why they need to call it Second Second to begin with, perhaps union rules of some kind)

Isn't there something about the end credits in Medicine Man where Goldsmith is credited as a hairstylist or something?

Heh ... Goldsmith mentions that at his concerts. He ran into Connery during THE RUSSIA HOUSE and Connery growled, "Jerry ... I want your HAIR." MEDICINE MAN came shortly thereafter ...

Carter Burwell has listed EVERY member of his orchestra on a couple of albums. I was amazed at how many players worked on CONSPIRACY THEORY. Offhand, the only other time I've seen all the players listed on a soundtrack was in the deluxe foldout LP of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.

In the original Halloween film, the credits say:

Music Performed by the Bowling Green (Philharmonic/Symphony, I can't remember which) Orchestra

Of course, John Carpenter actually performed all the music himself on synthesizer...Carpenter apparently went to Bowling Green State University in northwestern Ohio, and the credit is a nod to the school.

For Waterworld, Hans Zimmer provided some of the synth and drum programming (even if it's not credited); hence the 'thanks' credit.
