Okay, that's not entirely true. It just feels that way after receiving the extremely (since 1971 when I first saw the movie) desirable Omega Man soundtrack. Do you know how long I've retained and been able to pull from memory track 17? Lukas, if you're reading this, way to go!

Okay, now to the survey. What would you need to acquire for your collection in order to make it complete, could give up all the time you spend collecting soudtracks, and (as William Shatner so eloquently put it) move out of your parents basement, get a girl (or boy) friend and Get A Life? I'm going to limit this to soundtracks, which for the most part, have never been released. For me, it would be the following:

The Satan Bug - Jerry Goldsmith
Crack in the World - John Douglas
Beneath the Planet of the Apes - Leonard Rosenman (I know, released long ago as an LP, but quite rare)
Conquest of the Planet of the Apes - Tom Scott
Battle for the Planet of the Apes - Leonard Rosenman

I'm not that much of a collector. I only get scores from films I have seen, and liked. My collection would be complete however, if I had the following:

The World of Henry Orient - Elmer Bernstein
    Blow Out - Pino Donaggio
and a remastered Hawaii - Elmer Bernstein

I agree, Crack in the World is a terrific movie (except for the soap opera portion about Dr. Sorenson and his wife). Great special effects, great sequences, including the descent into the volcano, but most of all John Douglas' music. Does anyone know why this film is not and never has been available on video?

Jeez, it's about time somebody else besides myself mentioned CRACK IN THE WORLD. I once made an inquiry to Silva regarding both this score and Michael J. Lewis' JULIUS CEASER. The master's for the Lewis score are apparently at the bottom of the Atlantic and Douglas' amazing catastrophe score is, alas, nowhere to be found.

Well I do know this, I have gotten everything I wanted and more since I started collecting. And there's a few long shot things I'd love to have. I'll get to that in a minute. I know that Bernstein's World of Henry Orient is supposed to be released on Rykodisc sometime this year. And there's a pretty good sounding boot of Donaggio's Blow Out going around and I'm lucky to own it since it's a really excellent score.

    My Wish list:
    Reindeer Games (Alan Silvestri)
    The Detective (Jerry Goldsmith)
    The Ilustrated Man (Jerry Goldsmith)
    Judgment Day (Alan Silvestri)
    Harry and Son (Henry Mancini)
    Animal House (Elmer Bernstein)
An American Werewolf In London (Elmer Bernstein)
    48 Hours-complete (James Horner)
    Analyze This (Howard Shore)
    South Park (Marc Shaiman)
Chill Factor (Hans Zimmer and John Powell)
    The Great Outdoors (Thomas Newman)
    Tequila Sunrise-complete (Dave Grusin)
    Commando (James Horner)
    Johnny Mnemonic (Brad Fiedel)
    I.Q. (Jerry Goldsmith)

I don't think any one of us can complete their collection as long as people make movies!

The day I can complete my collection will be the day where silent movies (without scores) are the only movies we will watch and every darn score is released complete.

    That will be the day...

    Most important are:
    • Captain Blood (Erich Wolfgang Korngold). I've got the Marco Polo re-recording, but I bet it's not complete. From what I do remember, there must be so much more music in the film (I have to dig out the VHS tape...)
    • The First Great Train Robbery (Goldsmith of course)
    • Robin Hood (The Disney film; the composer's name escapes me)
    • More or less all unreleased scores by Williams

But I doubt that my collection will ever be complete.

NP: Captain Blood (from the album I mentioned)

With the acquisition of many promo scores I have finally gotten to a point where there is nothing floating around out there that I absolutely must have. Sure there are still promos around that I would like to have (like the Bill and Ted's Movies), but for the most part I am content with my collection.

As far as things that were never ever released that I would complete my collection with, that is the same list that I put up in Dantoris' if you could have it all post.

Major League by James Newton Howard
Wyatt Earp (Complete) by James Newton Howard
Postman (Complete) by James Newton Howard
    Navy Seals by Sylvester Levay
Sniper by Gary Chang and Hans Zimmer
    Top Gun (Complete) Harold Faltermeyer
Tango & Cash by Harold Faltermeyer
and I must second HT's Commando by James Horner and Johnny Mnemonic by Brad Fiedel

Greg, that would never happen for me. I am always finding a good, new score somewhere or other. Either something I heard years ago that I want on CD or something new like the recent Animal Farm which had some very nice music in it. Best, John.

    I wished these existed.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (Buddy Baker),
Robin Hood (Disney one, I don't know the composer),
Duck Tales the movie COMPLETE(David Newman),
    Pee-Wee's Big Adventure COMPLETE(Danny Elfman),

and of course the one I always mention, my all time most wanted score CD that will never(probably) be released

Duck Tales the TV series (Ron Jones)

Yes, coincedently enough all the scores that I want are scores from shows that I loved when I was a kid. Oh well, hopefully one day...

NP: Gremlins by Jerry Goldsmith (I just got it today, I like it!)

For all you fans of Johnny Douglas, In 1965
he did an album of film themes for RCA Camden, their low price label, and buried on it was his theme for CRACK IN THE WORLD. I suppose you haunt eBay, hoping for it to show up
someday. Personally, I was never that impressed with the score, but perhaps I should
check it out next time it plays on TBS, and
    re-evaluate it.

Until then, I would reveal my age by hoping
for the following B Sci-fi scores to show
    up someday:

    THE LOST CONTINENT (Paul Dunlap)
    PROJECT MOONBASE (Herschel Burke Gilbert)
WAR OF THE SATERLLITES (Walter Greene)

    and the following "major" scores:

    DESTINATION MOON (the original Columbia
    masters that almost it out
    on PEG last year)
    THE SATAN BUG (Goldsmith)
    VON RYAN'S EXPRESS (Goldsmith)
    THE LOST COMMAND (Waxman)

As someone said above--Your NEVER complete!

Mark -- thanks for the memory jog on CRACK IN THE WORLD. I remember seeing a reference to the RCA Camden LP, but never came across one.

To make my collection complete would require a true stereo remix of the original tracks to Barry's ZULU.

    Fat chance.

I will not rest untill all notes composed by Williams and Elfman are in my posession. Simultaneously, I'm not really a fan of expanded scores, if they come at the expense of the listening fluidity or sound quality, so I guess I'll never get there...

Complete versions of these scores would probably leave me content for life.

    Jaws (about to happen, thankfully)
    The Towering Inferno
Beneath The Planet Of The Apes
King Of Kings (MUST have the Main Title in its film version)
The Private Life Of Sherlock Holmes
    Cleopatra
    Capricorn One
    The Swarm
    Hawaii
And expanded versions of the rest of the Bond films up to View To A Kill (Octopussy alas is a long ways off from that happening in light of how that rerelease got botched)

And if there were some interesting obscure work by some composers I've liked, that would be nice. Rosenmann wrote a nice score for the 1971 TV miniseries "Vanished" and I also liked what Bernstein came up with for the 1964 documentary "Four Days In November".

Is there any information about HOW complete it will be?

    Also, I forgot one score:

    • Bruce Broughton's Young Sherlock Holmes. I once saw the movie on TV. Can't remember too much, but the score impressed me. I know I was wondering if Williams scored it, because of the similarities to Indy 2.

actually, I don't believe it would be possible to complete my collection.
there's too much I yearn for.
Aside from all the mainstream composers, there's tons of European, Japanese, and Russian (if THAT's available at all) film music I want to get my hands on.
    The sheer volume is staggering.
Heck, just trying to get all the Williams and Goldsmith titles is a chore!

but Varese I believe has re-issued some of their older titles, so some online place like Intrada may have it.

There are two things I completely forgot:
    • A piece of music that was featured more than a year ago in a German commercial for "Nordstern Collonia". Unfortunately, I have no idea what it is, but it sounded edited, so I guess it wasn't an original piece. A bit in the vein of Edelman's wonderful Dragonheart score.
    • Here's the tough one. Years ago, when film music didn't mean anything to me, I saw a short movie on TV. I think I hadn't read Tolkien's Silmarillion at that time, but the "story" of this movie was similar to Ainulindalae (sp? I'm too lazy to dig out the book) from Tolkien's book.
There was an orchestra performing some work, including a piano. After a short while, the pianist started playing something different, causing chaos among the orchestra. The conductor tried to keep them playing the original work, and you could see & hear both of them trying to "win". This was accompanined by an upcoming thunderstorm, if I recall it correctly, which still enhanced the tension.
I have absolutely no idea what this was called, or who participated in making it, but I think I can remember that it had really cool music. It would be fantastic to see this again.

NP: Slavonic Dances (Dvorak; Berliner Philharmoniker/Maazel)
