SLEEPING BEAUTY is my favorite Disney movie, also my favorite Disney score, although it's true that the whole thing is adapted from Tchaikovsky's "Sleeping Beauty." I adore that song "Once Upon a Dream."Saw SNOW WHITE in its revival in '93 or so, and was knocked out by the seamless transition from one song to another -- never had the feeling, as I do with most of the recent pictures, that I was watching an endless series of Broadway musical showpieces. "With A Smile And A Song," for example, comes seemingly out of nowhere, but the scene works perfectly, and the tune is just gorgeous.
THE LION KING has mostly good songs, as well as a decent score, even though the whole thing is a mishmash of THE POWER OF ONE and BACKDRAFT.
I like Goldsmith's MULAN score, but I hate the songs, every one of them. Goldsmith made the most of his occasional interpolation of the song's tunes, as well -- he makes the "Reflection" theme really lovely.
THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME is the only Alan Menken score I care to own, so far, although some of the lyrics could be better.
Haven't seen PETER PAN in a million years, but I remember it as having an especially vivid score. Every time I've been on the Peter Pan rides at Disneyland and Disney World, I remembered how cool it was. (For a while at the California park, the attraction music that they boomed over the hidden loudspeakers was an especially fierce motif, presumably from the film, that I didn't remember -- something choral, I think.)
(Did you know that they've torn down the crazed, psychedelic Mr. Toad's Wild Ride at Disney World? To make room for something more "current." I can't tell you how much that maddens me. It was the only ride they had where it would be completely different depending on which of the two lines you got on. I hope they still have it at the California park. You know, the California and Florida parks are similar in conception, ye both are UTTERLY different experiences ... )
I'm sure I'm overlooking some other Disney score ... (my mother insists on collecting all the classic Disney releases, so it wouldn't be hard to cross-reference). I must leave the FANTASIAs out of this particular discussion (although by the same criterion I perhaps shouldn't have mentioned SLEEPING BEAUTY.)

Robin Hood!
I don't like all of the songs, but some are really good (but I only saw the German synch, and they always mess around with the songs), and the score is great. Also, from all the Disney movies I've seen, this is by far my favourite, and in fact one of my favourite movies in general. What's so great about the German version is that Peter Ustinov also did the German voice of Prince John, with a hilarious accent.More or less every Disney movie seems to get a DVD and score CD release - but where's Robin Hood????????

2. the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
3. Sleeping Beauty
4. the Lion King
5. AladdinI do really like A Bug's Life, but I'm not sure where on my list it sits..?...hmmm...
Why there isn't a score release for Winnie the Pooh or Robin Hood is beyond me...but it really annoys me because I've been going crazy looking for the scores of these >_<

MULAN's orchestral music blows every other Disney film's orchestral music out of the water.Do NOT take my words out of context--I am NOT talking about score vs. score, because that is not fair to Mr. Goldsmith's working conditions for the film.

Oh, and are we limiting this to *animated* Disney films?Because if not, then my answer changes to NIGHT CROSSING in a New York minute.
