anyone here have a good collection of IMAX scores? How about IMAX DVDs?

I have 3: Wolves, Cosmic Voyage, and Whales.

and today, I just received Stephen Endelman's new score to a planetarium show, called Passport to the Universe.

NP -- Passport to the Universe, jury's still out: very atmospheric

The only one I am familar with is Merrill Jensen's very good score for the Price of Freedom about the Alamo. I am sure though that many of these are excellent even I have not heard them. I know that many documentary films that I showed over the years to students when I was school teaching had excellent music in them. Some of them were:
American Idea by Richard Rodgers, one on the capture of the first horse narrated by Richard Boone, American history films of Revolutionary War period, Twisted Cross-with original score and source music, Michelangelo-Last of the Giants-great score by Rosenthal, and many others. Best, John.

Across the Sea of Time by John Barry is a truly amazing peice of music. It is (in fact) my favorite Barry score, I am pretty sure it's out of print now - but definately worth getting. Music hardly ever gets more lush and romantic than this.

I went to see an IMAX film about 6 months ago, I must go to another soon!

I'm trying to remember the composer of this one, the score was very impressive.

I think it was called something like 'Elephant Kingdom' any clues?

    Thanks

William Ross' T-REX: BACK TO THE CRETACEOUS is a pleasant pastiche of the action-adventure score, with a particularly touching and sentimental theme for the film's protagonist, Ally, and her growing relationship with her dad. Pretty good score overall, except for one horrendous song that is laughable out of the film's context (it even seems out of place in the film, though).

I have only seen two, 'T-Rex' and 'Everest'!

I only remember the score to 'Sea of Time' (which I haven't seen),but that's because I have the album!
    Cole,
It's not my favorite Barry score, but it does have it's moments!

    the former interested me because...

    1.I'm into dinosaurs big time!
2.I've actually been to Everest! (not to the top!)!

I got Wings Of Courage by Gabriel Yared.
It's pretty impressive. Not the usuallly Yared score. Some cues are bombastic, also has some romantic waltz, tango and several nice themes. Well, those who don't like English Patient should try it out! Yared is really good.

I'll second that... T-REX: Back to the Cretaceous is awesome! James was kind enough to play a couple clips of this for me, and as soon as I heard the opening cue, I knew it was something I should get. Great music! If you enjoyed My Dog Skip and Tin Cup, you'll enjoy this one.

A Dinosaur IMAX film? Wow, never heard about it!

If (or rather: when, although it may still take several months) I get a home cinema projector, I'll probably buy an IMAX DVD (it's probably not so much fun on a TV). I've seen "Blue Planet" twice in an IMAX cinema, and really liked it. Is this one also available on DVD?

Michael Land's variations on Sting's themes in "The Living Sea"--certainly worth checking out, if you haven't already. Lots of good stuff there, some Carribean, and very moody-but-good music.

    I have 2 IMAX scores:
Everest: An uplifting score, very majestic. When you're in the mood, it's quite good.
Amazon: This one I rate very highly. Great driving main theme. At some point I will get more of Alan Williams music.

I've got to second the good words about Barry's score to Across the Sea of Time. I like the score to Everest, although it sometimes seems to be just one crescendo after another. Basil Poledouris wrote a great score for Flyers. I love Yared but was not thrilled with Wings of Courage.

But, having just returned from Dayton, OH where they've just stopped showing Cinerama movies after doing it for 4 years, I've got to say that those scores by Steiner, Gould, Raksin, Moross, North, and Tiomkin are really amazing!!

Thor: Horner recently scored the IMAX film THE GREAT MIGRATION. It won't be released on CD, though, as he only wrote about 20 minutes of music.

Here's another vote for FLYERS by Poledouris.
It was only the second IMAX film I've seen, and the music just blew me away. No release on cd, but I did buy the laserdisc just for the score (it's not isolated, but there are moments where there is now dialogue and Poledouris' talent really shines through.

This may seem a little out of place, but I have a score that I do not recommend. The music to "Dolphins" was highly unmemorable. I believe there were a few moments of sentimental music, but it was coated with caribbean music and Sting. So I recommend you skip this one unless it really seems to be up your alley.

it's alright. starts out kind of dull but gets better as it goes along.

I worked at an IMAX theater. I liked John Debney's score for Jordan to the MAX. It was surrounded by a bunch of pop songs but it was good enough to get me to order the soundtrack. It also got me in looking at some of his other scores.

So I take it that I'm the only one who purchased Alan Williams' ISLAND OF THE SHARKS in Intrada's special sale a while back?

Williams' score is bucolic, sometimes to the point of boredom, but there are some beautiful melodies, particularly in the main title. I give it 3 1/2 out of 5.

I know this is an older thread, but I recently got two BILL CONTI scores which I am loving - "Yellowstone" and "Grand Canyon." They are in the mode of his score to "The Right Stuff," so if you enjoyed that, you'll enjoy these. Kind of hard to come by, though. I made myelf a double-feature disc of the two, since they are both short (of course - the films are ususally only 45 minutes long).
I'll also say that "Across the Sea of Time" is one of my favorite Barry scores.

well, what DIDN'T Williams rip-off in that score?

to be fair he was told to by the producers (so goes the story). I guess if you want a paycheck your art sometimes suffers....

everything from Out of Africa to Medicine Man must have been on the temp track, cuz it's all there.
