First off, I just got this score and love it. The only word I can think of is: AWESOME... IMO, it has to be one of Davis' best scores to date....but I needed to ask you guys about something I noticed. I found some really cool classical references in a couple of the tracks. I hardly think these were a coincidence, simply because the similarities are incredible. Here goes. Check out:
Track 15 "The Mudlap Trap"
Compare this to: The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Paul Dukas. From the moment track 15 starts, it paraphrases, if not directly quotes Dukas' music. It's very cool!Track 18 "Lesson of Inner Strength"
Compare this to: The Firebird Suite by Igor Stravinsky. It's not until 1:30 when the "Firebird" quote comes in, but the motif here can be found throughout the score and is brilliantly incorporated.Interestingly enough, these two pieces can of course be found on the Fantasia 2000 cd. Now, let me know if making these comparisons is way out of line. I think that for those of us who are familiar with the classical pieces, it adds a little something to the listening experience.
I would like to know if any of you hear the same similiarities!
Over and out....

I noticed those, too! I also thought that the second part of track 12 ("The Komodo Dragontrot") was an homage to "Ritual Action of the Ancestors" from Stravinsky's Rite of Spring.I was not distracted by this at all. I thought it added an extra sense of wonder and good old-fashioned adventure to the score, making it even more enjoyable than it already was.
I am sure if we listened hard enough we might find a few more of these in this score.

well I just compared mudlap and apprentice and yeah. i dont think thats what you call similarities jeron. he was obviously making reference o the work. I dont think that its even ripping Dukas off. I think that was direct intentional reference which maybe ok. like how Herrmann referenced copland's howdown in one of his films. have yopu ever heard that? it was hysterical to hear the "beef, its whats for dinner" song in minor as opposed to major
