What are some soundtracks that you think are really great, but you always see copies in used bins that noone ever buys?

Frankly, I've never seen any "great" soundtracks in the Used Bins. I have picked up some soundtracks at a cheaper price that I would never buy at full price, i.e., "Nightbreed" and "Toys."

I once found Doctor Zhivago in the discount bin though and scarfed it up.

I never seen a soundtrack (read: score) in a used bin. It's always either music group CDs of song compilation soundtracks.

Quite a few Varese titles show up at Love Gardens in Lawrence, Kansas. Just found several Korngolds and Norths there in last few weeks. We have three stores besides them in town that sell used CDs and I have found some good stuff at all of them over last few years. JW.

    Hello, John!
Have to second Mr. Winfrey's plug of Love Garden in Lawrence, KS - found the Varese recording of Korngold's SEA HAWK there a few weeks ago, and they do seem to get a relatively good selection of score CD's. The Hasting's store also has a surpringly good selection of soundtracks in the used bins.
I've noticed that TITANIC is filling up the used bins at an amazing rate - not that I'd ever buy it.

WILD AT HEART one can usually find used without a whole lot of looking - Elfman's BATMAN (the first movie) I've encountered on a consistent basis.

Ghost. I always see this at the used stores.
I used to see "The Rosary Murders" and "Batman Forever", but haven't lately!

my area has tons of things like

    Anastasia
    Dangerous Minds
    White Man's Burden
    Practical Magic, Silvestri version

and I see a fair amount of Portman's Used People score, as well as Shaiman's Mr Saturday Night.

also, if anyone is interested-- or desperate as the case may be-- there is a Michael Nyman Practical Magic CD and 2 copies of Dennis the Menace collecting dust at my local Hasting's. they are very used and abused, at least as the condition of the covers indicates.
Would be happy to get them for someone and send for $15 for one CD (2 bucks postage domestic, 1 buck for the package, 9 bucks for the CD, and 3 bucks finder's fee.)

Well, I've got lots'o stores here in L.A where you can buy used cd's. I've purchased some very rare score myself, such as Witches of Eastwick for $6.00. Anyway, I've seen a lot of really good scores in used bins, but I usually already have 'em.

    Like I have mentioned before, 80% of my collection were bought in used stores. I have found some pretty rare things in the used bins, like;

    Promised Land (James Newton Howard)
    The Shadow (Jerry Goldsmith)
    Spacecamp (John Williams)
    Paperhouse (Hans Zimmer)
    Cat's Eye (Alan Silvestri)
Who Framed Roger Rabbit (Alan Silvestri)
    Jennifer 8 (Christopher Young)
People Under the Stairs (Graeme Revell)
    The Sea Hawk (Erich Korngold)
    Exodus (Ernest Gold)
    ...and lots more

LRon, I saw the Sea Hawk one too, but already had it, so I passed so someone like you could get it. Best, John.

Manhattan can be an excellent place to pick up used stuff, but you have to move fast and be lucky in your timing. Record critics (of which there are way too many in NYC) tend to get free soundtracks and just sell them off. Not every label will send samples out -- the specialty labels like Varese and Intrada don't seem to send many freebies, but Milan certainly does, the racks're jammed with their stuff the week it's released. And left-over "big-ticket" song albums like BATMAN FOREVER and GODZILLA will clog the aisles. I tend to wait until they come down to $5 at least. (I bought a copy of WHITE MAN'S BURDEN, a picture I haven't seen, for 88 cents! I did so as a gamble, an extremely cheap one after all, on the two cues by Howard Shore, which turn out to be very nice, but so are most of the songs. I'd have paid way more than that if I'd known in advance how good it was.)

NP: THE MISSOURI BREAKS (John Williams) (one I was VERY surprised to find in a used bin)

I found Dennis the Menage (Goldsmith) at Best Buy once, a cut-out marked 3.99. I said what the heck...took it up to the register where it rang up for .01, that's right 1 cent. They gave it to me for that.

I've found it depends a lot on location; if you live in a major metropolitan area, or college town, the turnover and quality of selection is much better. But there is the occasional surprise that occurs in out of the way places - found a copy of the original Herrmann CAPE FEAR score in a record store in KC, MO for $8.00 and a copy of KING OF KINGS, (expanded, Sony) here in Topeka not too long ago - and Topeka is definitely NOT a soundtrack town.

I always see a lot of copies of Williams score The Lost World. Its really a good score. I know many people don't particularly like his little expriment in disonance!

Unfortunately the used bins in my area tend to be filled with crap, like the above mentioned GODZILLA:THE ALBUM, BATMAN AND ROBIN, DEAD PRESIDENTS, MENACE II SOCIETY or any other garbage that passes itself off as a soundtrack. As far as scores go TITANIC is a popular item in the used bin. Most of the scores I see are Patrick Doyle's works or Alan Silvestri's FATHER OF THE BRIDE scores.
The sad thing is that even the regular cd racks are filled with garbage so I usually go to Dallas or Austin to buy scores or buy them online.

Greg Bryant -- I had precisely the same experience at Best Buy in West Palm Beach with Dennis the Menace. When they rang it up and told me it was a penny, I went back to the rack and picked up the other 2 that were sitting there. One rang up as a penny, and the other was (are you sitting down?)...FREE! Did anyone ever before get something free from Best Buy? I doubt it! I paid a total of two cents for 3 copies of Dennis the Menace! I stuck one into my Goldsmith section, and the other two are just sort of sitting there, waiting to be worth something (monetarily, that is). They are notched on the end, but unopened/unplayed, and worth every..penny... I paid for them!
