I have not seen this movie for over 12 years, and yet this CD has a striking quality that makes me remember all the cues.It seems like the Salter cue,# 8, MIGHT have been interpolated by Basil P. on the first Conan movie, Does anyone care to comment?

I was rather disappointed in the CD. I wanted more of the fight music -- and I know there was more of it, I have the movie on VHS (I have 633 Squdron, too, BTW).

Still, it's a lovely score and I have it on my "Medeval Movie Music" tape.

Director Franklin J. Schaffner's first big experiment with scale, thousands of extras and plain-old-EPIC storytelling. I've never seen it, though. Anyone know if there's a letterboxed version, be it VHS, LD or DVD?

(Mr. Schaffner later made PLANET OF THE APES, PATTON, NICHOLAS & ALEXANDRA, PAPILLON and several others of which you may or may not have heard.)

The liner notes from the CD make for some interesting reading. The original film was an hour longer, with more concentration on the developing romance between the Warlord and the girl.

It was on this focus that Moross composed the music, which was why the score was so lyrical.

The studio suits got nervous and insisted on focusing on the battle scenes.

I'm reading the notes now and see that Hans Salter was brought in to "punch up" (my term not theirs) the battle scene music. On the CD this is represented by "Warlord in Battle" and "The Death of Draco," two of my favorite cues, and a clue as to why more of this type of music didn't make it onto Varese's re-recording.

A very nice score and has always been a favorite of mine by Moross. I also like those same two Salter cues. The film has the feel of a made for TV film. Universal released this and it resembles many made in those years. Many appeared like TV films including the Beau Geste remake with Leslie Nielsen, a Chuck Connors film, Counterpoint and many others along in there. U.S. Marshalls also seemed like a TV movie to me. Best, John.
