I recently saw SLEEP HOLLOW (which premiered in Norway a couple of weeks ago) and loved it. I won't discuss the film here, though, as that too has been properly covered earlier. i just want to share an observation:

Did you notice that, during the main titles, TWO names really stand out: Elfman's and Burton's. Elfman's name pops up on the screen with a heavy, orchestral crescendo and a sudden shift to blue background which really leads our attention to his name. At the end, another crescendo is heard as the picture suddenly shifts to the image of a pittoresque ruin of some sort. That's when Burton's name pops up.

I like to think that it is no accident the way these main titles are arranged, and that it sort of "symbolizes" the CORE of what these films are, namely first and foremost the artistic conglomerate of Burton and Elfman. Anyone disagree?

I also noticed the things you refer to in the main titles. I actually laughed out loud when I saw the picture because when Elfman's name comes up we hear the choir come in with a MAJOR chord while the rest of the main title is in minor. you can hear the exact moment his name pops up on the CD. its awesome. I always sit there and think to myself while watching movies that if I were the composer I would do something special in the title music when my name popped up. and then elfman does it. he rocks.can anyone think of any other incidents where something like this ocurred?

I may need to check again, but I seem to recall the music hitting a high note when Jerry Goldsmith's name appears on screen in the opening titles for Star Trek; First Contact...

Interesting. Haven't seen Sleepy Hollow. As far First Contact. Nope, it doesn't do anything special when Godlsmith's name appears.

In City Slickers' main title sequence Marc Shaiman puts a little mariachi like trumpet fanfare when his name appears on screen. That's the first time I noticed this in main titles, but have noticed many times since. Laughed outloud in the theater the first time. I almost clapped as well.

I seem to remember something about Irwin Allen insisting on big music for his 'name' credit on the Swarm, which jerry obliged!

    .....Anyone clarify this a bit?!

I don't know about "The Swarm", but John Williams provided two huge cymbal crashes for Irwin's name in the opening credits of "The Towering Inferno"!
(I wonder if he got a bonus for that?)

Check out just about any film of the Golden Age, particularly Korngold, Steiner, and Tiomkin. It's an old trick.
