I too would love to have the money I had! This month, i spent over 200$ on CDs and DVDs, and now I've only about 20$ left until next week...

I also still have to get serveral CDs from them. So far I only have the Williams disc, but I must have "Prince Valiant", and although I've never heard them, I'm still interested in the Rosenman disc and the various Goldsmiths...

NP: Pirates (Sarde; Thor, do you know this one? You should like the religious-sounding Throne motif!)

Hey, those FSM Goldsmith releases are ALL very good. I really love the westerns, an the Flim-Flam Man is a great piece of Americana/ Coplandesque writing.

No, Marian, I haven't heard PIRATES, although I like Sarde in general. I've only heard a lot ABOUT it. What you say about the "religious sound" makes it sound very interesting, though. But from what I've heard, it's also quite rare?

Thor: The Throne theme is in the same vein as the "Dawn/Map Room" sequence from "Raiders". Don't know if it's hard to find, I liked it in the movie and picked it up when I came across it.

If the question about "The Pirates" on CD has already been elaborated upon, forgive me.

In the U.S., Varese issued "The Pirates" on both LP and CD. The CD release is expanded...more music than on the LP.

No music yet this month, but two very worthwhile books:

Randall Larson's "Music From The House Of Hammer" and Jeff Bond's "The Music Of Star Trek".

I LOVE all that music, so I had to get these at some point. Trouble is, I probably spend more time reading about music than I do listening to it. I certainly spend my entire boring working day THINKING about it!

How many tracks does it have? My Milan CD has 11 tracks, and seems to be have the same music as the LP.

    4. Mutiny 3:43
    5. Captain Red-Galleon Master 3:51

Seems to be the same as mine, only that my CD has the titles in French (which I don't understand, but can figure out enough to believe they're the same). I'm confused by their length, too.

NP: Eine Alpensinfonie (Richard Strauss; Berliner Philharmoniker/Karajan; fantastic)

    Just in . . .

Platoon Leader - Definately George S. Clinton's best score (for an extremely underrated movie), but it could've used some more music. But despite running on the short side (just over 32 minutes) and the fact that nearly all the track lengths are mis-labeled, a well-liked CD that should get plenty of spins in my CD player. (And sequencing by our very own resident, Mr. Ford A. Thaxton).

Hard Target should be here tomorrow.

Wow. Is that the Varese version? Seems I have to get that one, too...

NP: Watchin Face Off on TV, in a horrible pan & scan version. The actors constantly get off the screen, it's so annoying that you can hardly follow the action. In the first scene where Cage & Travolta point their guns at each other, you can only see the guns. I HATE pan & scan!

I was looking for Vaughn-Williams' Antartica, but couldn't find it. Instead, I got these:

    • Till Eulenspiegel's lustige Streiche/Don Juan/Tod und Verklärung/Salomes Tanz (Richard Strauss; Berliner Philharmoniker/Karajan)
Special offer; I love Till Eulenspiegel, and once heard Tod und Verklärung in concert, where I liked it very much
    • The Egyptian (Herrman/Newman; Marco Polo)
Never heard a note of it. But they had it for a reasonable price, and as I read so much praise for it on this board, I had to get it. So, if I don't like it, I'll blame you!

NP: The Egyptian (sounds good so far)

    * VIOLIN/FLUTE CONCERTO (Williams)

This is nothing like any Williams you know - pure contemporary music with a twist. Yet, I think I find hints of his trademark sounds within. Just as challenging as his IMAGES score or his Herrmannesque Irwin Allen TV scores. I need more time to get into this music - it's full of details!

"shoot a monkey" -- what the HELL does that mean, Joe? I really like the sound of it, and I think I infer the meaning, but where did you GET that?

Mr. InSanDiego, although you didn't mention this: your GARGANTUAS disc will be along as soon as SOMEONE gets off his self-described "narrow white ass ... " (at this rate, perhaps I'll be presenting it to you in Detroit.)

Looking forward to your movie. (And any further journal entries about same. I kind of thought you'd be too busy on it to keep that up.)

As for me, my most recent acquisition is FSM's release of THE OMEGA MAN. Very VERY nice.
