I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me some about this CD. I saw 2 copies of his at Tower the other day, and it made me wonder. I know that the copies were just put on the shelf because I had never seen them before (I go to Tower at least once a week and thumb through every CD in the soundrack section.) Theb i heard that this was a very rare score and tht it was somewhat like Playing by Heart. Can you give me some information about its avaiability as well as some reviews of the music?

I don't think The Cotton Club is rare. CDNOW, Amazon and other online stores carry it for about $5. So it shouldn't be hard to find, or at an high price.
As for the music, I have not heard much of it, and only within the film. Though I can say from what I heard, it is the Jazzy kind of music like Playing by heart, but more so.
So if you enjoy PbH, than I think you most likely will enjoy this one as well.

Playing by Heart is the better CD by far.
much more subdued and calming, than Cotton Club.posted 04-03-2000 06:17 AM PT (US)

If you like 20's style big band jazz, this isn't a bad cd to get. However, it can't hold a candle to the original recordings from the Cotton Club. The original recordings are not as good sound wise, but they more than make up for it in spirit!
