Okay, I know some of us get made when a movie comes out and it has an excellant score, but the soundtrack is loaded with songs "from and inspired by" the film. Occasionally we'll get lucky, the CD will included about 5 minutes of score, but most of the times, we don't get even that. But what are some soundtracks you guys (and girls) like that are loaded with songs, with and without a score track? Do you like them more if they're songs written specifically for the movie, or what? Like me, I enjoy Animal House because he has songs from an era when people knew how to put out good music - you can go wrong with Sam Cooke, people!

So what song compilation soundtrack do you like?
NP: Quigley, Down Under - "Freedom" *****/***** (My favorite western score. Where's the sequel, Mr. Selleck!?!?)

IF they are written specifically for the movie; or IF they have some bearing or significance to the story; and as long as they are in the movie (and IN the movie, not just some 10-second clip playing on the radio in the background of an inconsequential scene), ONLY if 2 of those 3 parameters are met, then I will ACCEPT that the song album is okay, but in no situation is there any excuse for not having a separate score album, unless of course the re-use fees are so high that the composer will not be able to eat until the CD goes platinum.I am normally extremely agrivated by a single score track tacked on at the end... it's there to "make us happy" but in actuality all it does is make us hunger for more.
Oh yeah, a song album is also okay if it's for a musical.... but I mean a real musical like EVITA or MARY POPPINS where there's a song every scene, not a Disney-type musical with only four or five songs.

STREETS OF FIRE is a wonderful all-songs disc. I love both score and song versions of the BATMAN FOREVER CDs (don't have BATMAN & ROBIN however). And I paid only 88 cents (before tax!) for WHITE MAN'S BURDEN, which has two excellent score tracks by Howard Shore, but ALSO a dynamic array of songs by an amazing variety of artists. Funny: if I knew today how good that album was, I'd have paid several more dollars than I did for WHITE MAN'S BURDEN -- but at the time, not knowing the film (I still don't), it was only that 88-cent pricetag (and Howard Shore's name) that got me to roll the dice.NP: KING SOLOMON'S MINES (Jerry somebody)

Someone told me that most of the songs on the Mission: Impossible compilation aren't even in the film, and those that are are barely audible.NP: Star Wars - "Inner City" *****/*****
(This is a good CD. This Williams guy - has he done anything since this one?)[This message has been edited by dantoris (edited 29 March 2000).]

I think Williams did one or two of the sequels to that movie, but I'm not sure what they were called. He also did one about the shark? Forgot the title. Also something about a war. Maybe more than one. Also some spaceships? You might try the IMDb.NP: KING SOLOMON'S MINES (Michael Hennigan)

Oh. Jaws. I remember that one now. 1975, wasn't it? Did he do the music for that? No way. Really? Cool.NP: Star Wars - "Princess Leia's Theme" *****/*****

I like the soundtracks to Dark City and Pi very much. Pi has lots of techno asrtists on the disc like Orbital and Massive Attacj, and a couple rockin' score cuts (also techno). And then, the Dark City CD makes me wonder if anyone has a complete version of the Dark City score?

Ah, yes. Forgot about Top Gun. I was just mad they didn't include "You've Lost That Loving Feeling," but "Danger Zone" and "Playing With the Boys" made up for that.

I have to make a complain about musical
movies releases.
In "There's no bussiness like show business"
or "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" just to give some examples there are included ONLY the songs and not the underscores or score.
That's drive me MAAAD!!!
On the other hand, "Singin In The Rain"
was a very nice release with all the songs
and underscores.posted 03-29-2000 10:59 AM PT (US)

Out of Sight (which has some score) is really good, despite, and sometimes because of, the dialog.

I loved the score when I recently watched "Dark City", and I'd intended to pick it up as soon as I see it, but now I'm not certain.
