It isn't, I just wanted to get your attention! BUT it MIGHT be SOON! In the new FSM, Lukas mentions that up-and-coming in their Silver Age series is a Ron Grainer score. I know that plenty of people have been pestering FSM for months about this great score, so...what else can it be?

I hope I haven't got you all worked up for nothing. If it's To Sir With Love, I'll hang myself on line.

I guess this is the only obvious one, since Silva already released Grainer's THE PRISONER (I bought that one for my mom as an Xmas present -- that's one of her VERY favorite TV shows.) TO SIR WITH LOVE has probably been sufficiently released and/or anthologized elsewhere.

If only I could tell you what ELSE is coming up ... (well, it's only rumors ... )

First off, Hi Graham, good to see you here!

Second, Please let it be OMEGA MAN, Great score, though it doesn't allways work well with the images.

Third, THE PRISONER, Quite possibly THE most exciting theme ever written for a t.v. series!
Well, at least in my humble oppinion.

    Timmer, you said:

"...though it doesn't allways work well with the images."

    THAT'S A MOUTHFUL!

Does Grainer's "Omega Man" score work for the film at all?

Yeah, that beautiful opening theme under the main title sequence promises a really great score, but it soon goes downhill from there, as the trombone solos and samba cues actually manage to make serious scenes laughable!
But nothing could be worse than that final scene, with Heston lying in a pool of his own blood, and the score breaks out into a "samba" beat...
The only thing missing is Lawrence Welk saying, "LET'S ALL DANCE!"

    Please don't misunderstand me.
I love this music, and I'll be in line to buy the CD, because it will be great to listen to...whenever AMC shows the film, I'm there, just because I love the music!

But it is a terrible film score.

Lukas said that if he mentioned the composer people would guess the film. Omega Man is probably a 20th Century Fox film right? So 2 + 2=

Tends to equal what it does, Louis, but this is one I genuinely don't know about. It only makes sense, though. They're concerned with breaking even at the very least, and I don't know any other unreleased Grainer score that would automatically sell.

Signed, "Your H-ness" (I like that one, Sir Timster)

Mr. Goldberg, "The Omega Man" was a Warner Bros. release...back in the very early 70's when they were "A Kinney Company".

Does that mean that they sold shoes too?

I'm not all that concerned about the samba music. I can program past it.

I'm looking forward to four specific tracks.

The opening credits, of course and three action cues -- the escape from the stadium, the defenestration scene and Heston's street battle outside the church.

This score could be done with a pretty small orchestral group. IIRC, most of it is in the form of organ music. The rest was done with a small band.

    Marc
NP: Me, whistling the the street battle music from memory.

I have always hoped for an Omega Man CD, and I sure do hope this is it...but Omega Man was a Warner Bros. release. The scores in that library have generally been unavailable. FSM has only had access to the 20th Century Fox library.

I'm still trying to figure out what film Grainer did that is in the Fox library.

    Chris,
Actually it was the other way around. Kinney tried to make movies for awhile.

There have always been some interesting combos...remember when Coke tried to make movies (Columbia); when Transamerica Insurance (United Artists) tried to make movies?

Now it's huge multi-conglomerates, with the exception of alchohol(Seagrams/MCA/Universal) trying to make movies.

To those who may be interested.
There are 3 releases of the Prisoner in Silva. (Vol 1, 2, and 3) with the music from the show.
Vol 1 has original cues mostly.
(Same cues as the original LP release)
Vol 2 & 3 has tracked music used in the show from the Chappel music library.
Also,Vol 2 contains the song The Age Of Elegance performed by Mr Grainer on harpischord.
It is believed that the Prisoner theme is based on this composition.
Also an alternate main title not used in the show can be founded in
"Dr Who And Other Ron Grainer Themes"
on the Play It Again Label. (Play 008)

Mr. Kinsinger---damn you, Mr. Kinsinger: I'm sorry that Ron Grainer broke your heart by not providing a tearful dirge for Chuck Heston. I, on the other hand, salute Ron for not mickey-mousing the mise-en-scene.

First I'm gonna strangle Graham Watt for his exclamatory wishful-thinking. Then I'm gonna strangle myself for using the term *mise-en-scene*.

Actually, in regards to Warner/Fox, the letter that accompanied "Take a Hard Ride" stated that the "mystery" release was coming from Warner Bros. So apparently, they do have some access

Hmmm... when the score turns out to be "The Empire of Small but Smelly Creatures," a little known, even lower budget British film Grainer scored before "The Omega Man," and often mistakenly credited to Sonrisal Colesterol, will you all be disappointed?

    Probably not.
I have liked every CD they (FSM) have done so far. If "The Empire of Small but Smelly Creatures" is what they choose, it well probably be awesome!!!!

"There's line flubs o' plenty, tons of continuity errors and the action is kind of stiff at times. One scene in particular has Heston on a motorcycle---when it leaps in the air at high speeds, you can see the stuntman's Heston-wig flip up, almost flying off."

"One very impressive note about the film is its score. The music is great and effective. At the beginning of the movie it's barely noticeable. But as the action starts boiling, the music wells up majestic and frightening."
