Just found out that the story Kubrick was working on will be directed by Steven Spielberg.
    quote:
The two men were close friends and Spielberg has described Kubrick as a valued mentor.
``Stanley had a vision for this project that was evolving over 18 years,'' Spielberg said. ``I am intent on bringing to the screen as much of that vision as possible along with elements of my own.''

Yeah, I just read the news myself, and I am SOO thrilled!! Kubrick was one of my favourite directors (next to Spiel, of course), so this would be the ultimate conglomerate of my two favourite film artists. And what a timing: the film will premiere july - 2001, which, I presume, is not altogether accidental. A proper and massive tribute to the late visionary!

I am happy to see Spielberg return to sci fi (and, seeing as MINORITY REPORT is next after that, TWO sci fi-related movies in a row!), and I'm sure he has something new to contribute in this genre. Just don't expect another CLOSE ENCOUNTERS. Spielberg has evolved dramatically since then, and tends to look back upon it as rather "naive".

Expect a restrained, yet large Williams score (for both movies, though particularly REPORT).

    Hey, Thor...
I've never heard of "Minority Report".
    What's it about?

    Also...
Are you REALLY going to Canada with Howard?

The pixelation-heavy DVD of EYES WIDE SHUT (what, you didn't pick it up already?) has some powerfully interesting interviews with Cruise, Kidman, and Spielberg. Spielberg speaks of his friendship with Kubrick in deeply affectionate tones but with that respect usually found between people of highly advanced skills (I know some Martial Arts masters, so partly I'm used to the phenom from the outside), intuitive comprehension of details everyone else would hardly see clearly enough to take note of. To witness Spielberg's awe and gratitude for Kubrick is a revelation of a bunch of fascinating things. By the way, EYES WIDE SHUT, I love that movie.

    Hi Chris!

MINORITY REPORT is not so much a sci fi movie as it is a thriller about a future society, in which convicts are sentenced before trial. Starring Tom Cruise, by many considered the world's biggest movie star, and directed by Spielberg, the world's greatest director(?), so this should be great. You can read more about the film from the link below, although - due to the recent news of AI pushing MR into the backlog - it is currently down.

    >>Are you REALLY going to Canada with Howard?<<

That depends on how you define REAL(LY)!

But I'm all game, and awaiting the Muse of Mr. Liverance. As I said, I've written a novel that takes place in Dawson, Canada, so at least I know what I'm at going to.

    Are you coming?
