A bonus track that is the music from the film's trailer. Among others, I'd really love to have the music from the trailer to THE PEACEMAKER. Zimmer composed it specifically for the trailer, didn't he?

Good idea; I'm sure they usually don't do it for cost reasons (the trailer orchestra would be different from the movie orchestra, and thus entail a whole separate set of fees).

I don't know if Zimmer did the PEACEMAKER trailer, but I can think of one trailer that WAS included on the CD: Goldsmith's trailer for EXTREME PREJUDICE (it is the cue "Extreme Prejudice"). I guess the movie was done far enough in advance that Goldsmith had time to record it with the same orchestra (one of the Hungarian ones, in this case, hence no re-use rights.) I also notice that the music has far fewer electronic noises in it than any given cue from the rest of the score does, suggesting that it was the first piece he wrote, recorded and mixed.

Oddly, the final trailer for EXTREME PREJUDICE didn't USE Goldsmith's original piece, but rather a melange from his earlier work for the same producers, FIRST BLOOD!

I've always wondered who did/where it came from -- the trailer music for MALICE -- love that whickering guitar.

Aw, good boy! I NEVER see the MALICE trailer mentioned -- it doesn't seem to be a John Beal one.

I think I partly love that guitar because it reminded me of a similar effect from the OLD OLD BATMAN cartoon show (from the 1970s) -- they ran it over and over, it was part of the recurring suspense/establishing-scene cues.

Good idea! I can think of only one instance off the top of my head... David Newman's THE PHANTOM. The original trailer music was the first track on the CD, cleverly titled "For Those Who Came In Late."

Actually, Jerry Goldsmith wrote the trailer music for JUDGE DREDD, and it was later used for THE PHANTOM and LOST IN SPACE. Newman did the score for THE PHANTOM, but not the trailer.

"For Those Who Came In Late" is actually from the opening scene of the film, when they show the origin of the first phantom and his first encounter with the Singh Brotherhood.

I believe the first track on the soundtrack for Con Air ("Con Air theme") was the cue used in the first trailer, and parts of score were used in the second trailer as well. And yes, Hans Zimmer did write the music for trailer to the Peacemaker.

Zimmer also wrote original trailer music for Beyond Rangoon which I've been searching for, for years!
I bought the soundtrack just to hear that music, and it's not on there :-/....At least the rest of it was good.
If anyone has the trailer music let me know!

I think they should have done that with The Mask Of Zorro. One of the greatest Trailor cues ever...using a combination of 3 scores, the intro to the Horner's score to Zorro, Zimmer's Drop Zone, and The Phantom in the end(?) The way it all comes together is awesome and unforgettable!

Also, the first track on the Hook cd, "Prologue," was music written specifically for the trailer.

Oh yes, I love that Prologue ... a shame that most of the trailers *I* saw, theatrical and TV both, used THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK instead!

    Great idea.

In fact,if the trailor wasn't composed by the main composer they should at least let us know where it came from.

Oh, I know of another thing that should be required of soundtracks -- LINER NOTES!!

Memo to Mr. Robert Townson: If you must release all those 30-minute CDs, at the very least you could provide some insight from the director, composer, orchestrator(s), engineer, editor, some jerk (completely ignorant of film music) who just wandered in, SOMEBODY!! >

The Armageddon 2CD has both the teaser trailer and the normal trailer on it. Both are great!

Didn't THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH have the trailer piece tacked on to the end?

SBD: The reason why Varese is skimpy on the artworks is allegedly out of time constraints.

No problem, James. Actually, the trailer for THE PHANTOM may start with a cut from the actual score (I'd have to check the trailer on my DVD again), but the rest is the JUDGE DREDD trailer music.

The only trailer that I'm aware of being
recorded with the score is Steiner's
"They Died With The Boots On" on
    the Marco Polo/Morgan/Stromberg release.

That FANTASTIC prelude was written for the trailer?? So that explains why I can't remember hearing it in the film.

Actually, I once saw a winter sports broadcast where they played that track.

I've been watching old PLANET OF THE APES movies, and the "Collector's Editions" (letterboxed, pleeez) include the trailers. Well, in every event, the trailers include music FROM THE MOVIES THEY WERE COMPOSED FOR. Were the pictures finished that far in advance? I know schedules have been tighter than ever these past few years, but really, is it THAT bad?
