I know of many CDs(soundtracks) that are amazing, yet no one owns. Two for instance...

    1. Titus: A truly amazing soundtack that deserves oscar nods in my opinion, powerful, nothing has been this good since Conan in my opinion (power wise)

    2. Ravenous: A truly unique Cd that i can always listen too. Frightening yet amazing, like a said, a truly unique soundtrack, the use of deep drums and off key sounds make a cool sound.

Anyhoo, we all have cds that no one else seems to have...so which cds?

My collection is really small, but here's one I can think of:

The Man in the Iron Mask

    Such a cruelly underrated score

    Ghost in the Shell
Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind
    Akira
    End of Evangelion
    Patlabor 2

Yes, they're all anime soundtracks (orchestral, not J-pop).

WATERSHIP DOWN by Angela Morley! I *always* hawk this score. No one ever listens. Magnificent, melodic, thrilling, intense and absolutely gorgeous. On my top-ten list!

    DjC,

I'm glad to see someone else recognize "Ravenous." It really is a very original effort. The tracks "Journey to the Cave" and "End Titles" are brilliant. The End Titles piece, with its off-key beat and gorgeous string theme, not only fits the gory but slightly spiritual ending but also times every musical event perfectly. Nyman got that one right.

Many of you probably already own Broughton's HEART OF DARKNESS video game score, but I still must recommend it. It has one of my favorite themes. Ranging from playful to heroic to sweeping, the energetic theme is an absolute delight. The score could have been more satisfying, but what is on the album is very entertaining.

And now for my truly amazing soundtrack...

    "Beverly Hills Ninja"

    ...amazingly horrible.

We're No Angels -- George Fenton

huge score. get the Varese Club release. They're selling it the Varese site!

    In Country -- James Horner

probably really nothing special cosmically, but I love its intimacy. Nice, quiet theme tnat gets one hell of a turn in the finale track.

Al: "Broughton's HEART OF DARKNESS ... The score could have been more satisfying, but what is on the album is very entertaining"

HOD is a GREAT album, and I love it dearly, but it's really just "Lost in Space" Jr. If you want that completely satisfying experience HOD lacks, get your hands on a copy of the Intrada LIS score release. It's incredible!

Peter D: The "Watership Down" CD is a worthwile investment, especially as it's becoming hard to find! The sound-quality is terrific, and the new liner-notes, while brief, are insightful and to-the-point.

THE ADVENTURES OF BLACK FEATHER promo(by Jenkins & Reynolds): Great score. It really reminds me of Debney's WHITE FANG 2. Big orchestral adventure score. Does anybody else have this one?

FANTÔME AVEC CHAUFFEUR (Kilar): fun fantasy comedy score. Some stuff reminds me of THE NINTH GATE. Typically Kilar.

LES VISITEURS 2 (Levi): great fantasy score. Reminds me of Kamen's ROBIN HOOD score. It was probably the intention of the director or composer to make it sound like ROBIN HOOD.

    Others:
    LE JAGUAR (Cosma)
    THE BROWNING VERSION (Isham)
    EYE OF THE PANTHER (Debney)
    JUDICIAL CONSENT (Young)
    CLEOPATRA (Scott)
A lot of other stuff by John Scott

WATERSHIP DOWN is indeed great and is probably the one film score I noticed as a kid (I was 10 when the movie came out) which
influenced my later musical interests. (ie British classical and film music) I had seen it in the film but didn't hear it again for something like 15 years when someone sent me a tape of the score, and, I cried! (and I never cry at music, ever) It's a shame that PEG went out of business but
the score is now out on CD and that's all that matters.

DjC, Your so right, I noticed the score when I first saw this intensely powerful film staring Denis Quaid, I would love to see a soundtrack from this (Savior) including the moving ethnic pieces released.

Wedge, I'm sure I mentioned over at FSM that you were not alone in your love of Angela Morley's Watership Down?!

Far away from Home by John Scott. The Main Theme is beautiful, sweet and powerful at the same time. Awesome cd.

Toy Soldiers, what can I say, awsome.

The Lost World by (great, now I can't recall his name. It's Italien and for some reason hard for me to remember all the time, I'll look it up when I get home)...anyway, its the score based on the Sony Playstation game. Powerful stuff.

Few people ever mention the fabulous Marco Polo albums of European film scores. Among them are some real gems, by well-respected composers, for films that no Americans will ever see (I haven't seen them, and don't want to in any case):

Honegger - Les Miserables (Marco Polo has
three other Honegger film score discs, all
    wonderful);
    Ibert - Macbeth / Golgotha
Auric - La Belle et Le Bete

Those three are French of course, but Marco Polo has also done British (Sainton's Moby Dick, a R. Vaughan Williams compilation, a Sir Arthur Bliss compilation) and Russian (Khatchaturian). I recommend any of these releases to folks who aren't afraid to buy scores to movies they have no chance of ever seeing. Besides, supporting these albums presumably will generate more American releases along the Stromberg / Morgan axis.

I have Dragonslayer. It's a good score, but the track list on the back of the jewel case is messed up. Anyone out there have Excalibur? That's another score with both great classical selections and original score. Another good score that no one seems to have is Final Countdown, the Pearl Harbor/time-travel/U.S.S. Nimitz movie with Kirk Douglas. I found that one years ago. I think it might be a boot, but I'm not sure. Sound quality is good.

Uh, me again. Just as an aside for all of you Lifeforce listeners, are any of you computer gamers? If so, Baldur's Gate has a section of battle music that plays occasionally that is lifted right out of Lifeforce. The main theme and driving rhythm are exactly the same. If any of you out there have played the game and know the score to Lifeforce, you know what I'm talking about.

CATASTROPHE 1999 - Japanese CD OOP. I had the LP but haven't been able to locate the CD. Beautiful music!!

CAPTAIN HORATIO HORNBLOWER -- LP release by Citadel. Robert Farnon conducted a re-recording of approximately 22 minutes for Reference Recordings. Like so many re-recordings, the tempo was too slow at times, but still good. And the rest of the music (various concert works) wasn't bad either. A portion of the LP was also reissued as part of Citadel's ADVENTURES IN HOLLYWOOD (?), I think.
