    I've come across his name in several threads and would like to know more. Can someone give me some info on his scores?
    Thanks.

    It's funny you mention him, I picked up his score to The Hurricane just a little while ago.

    Chris Young is an awesome composer. His music is something that has to be experienced... I'd recommend every score (I own). Check out (in order):

    Murder in the First
    Murder at 1600
    Hard Rain
    Judicial Consent
    Hush
    The Hurricane*
    The Man Who Knew Too Little*
    Rounders*
    Entrapment
    Copy Cat
    Norma Jean and Marilyn*
    Bright Angel

    Great stuff... Chris Young has a niche for Jazz, so if you dig that kind of stuff, you'll like the scores w/ *'s by them. There is typically a large orchestra involved and always a good, solid theme. I definitely look forward to each new project he does.

    Take a leap of faith and get one of those discs!

    I have many Chris Young albums, But I'll leave it to others here to inundate you with suggestions, and I'll just mention one which is my favorite...

    Hellbound:Hellraiser II

    This is great stuff, and always a forerunner in those "please recommend me some big choral music" type threads, It doesn't come much mightier than this, it runs the gammut of truly terrifying to eerie landscapes to some of the most beautiful melancholic themes ever written.

    Please.......GO GET!!!!!

    Urban Legend is also one hell of a score.

    NP -- Dick Tracy (Elfman), not as bad as I thought it would be

    You should also buy the book entitled "The Score: Interviews With Film Composers". It's worth it for the Chris Young interview alone. After reading the interview, I had to get more of his scores. He seemed so cool, that I almost felt obliged to do the guy a favor and buy some of his CDs. Other composers who have won me over just from reading their interviews include Michael Kamen (damn funny guy!) and Joel Goldsmith (also very funny; he answers the questions the way we all WANT the composers to answer them; he doesn't skirt many issues).

    I concur with Jeron.

    You must get Judicial Consent. It's a wonderful low-key score.

    Have been a big admirer of Mr. Young since HELLRAISER... having read that interview in THE SCORE (a very good book that everyone on this board should get), and several others featuring him, I've been intrigued by some of the more abstract work of his.

    So, I'm curious if there are Chris Young fans out there who would mind making tape dubs (yes, no CD-R's), of the following pieces I've been trying to locate:

    INVADERS FROM MARS, OASIS, HOLY MATRIMONY - from the Cinerama/Edel CD;

    MASSES, KOKU-RYU - from the "Max and Helen" Bay Cities CD;

    SPECIES - from the 5 disc promo set;

    CINEMA SEPTET 2 disc set;

    CHRISTOPHER YOUNG, VOL. 1 - promo

    kinda hefty, I know... but I'll provide tape & will cover postage. In return, I'll send a catalog listing of my collection & will happily make dubs for anyone who sees anything interesting. Just e-mail me at blackrose@valise.com

    Thanks, in advance. rh

    Has anyone any word on Young's score for Wonder Boys?

    Hush,
    Judicial Consent,
    Hellbound, &
    Murder in the First

    Are my favorite Chris Young scores. They all have wonderful moments and melodies.

    Just out abusing the search function(it's workin' great Beav!), and wanted to ask if anyone has more info behind the Murder at 1600 sessions. Like track titles(I'm being lazy and don't want to have to make them up), more on all the fascinating alternates on the set, and why UBOATS has been tacked on at the end of the set!!!

    Any thoughts?
    Sean

    I just got Cinema Septet yesterday, but I also go many other CDs yesterday also so I haven't gotten around to listening to it.

    But hey! After 6/12 Intrada is raising the price back 39.99!! So buying a 2CD set at $5 is still a steal even if it sucks! Though I'm sure it doesn't.

    Get Cinema Septet! Its terrific!

    American Harvest is 20mins. of gorgeous americana, a well rounded score in and of itself

    Sparkle Road is all Reich-T.Newman-esque guitar and electronics, but never overbearing,very sweet music here....

    Last Flight Out is a close cousin of BAT 21,harsh rhythmic writing...

    The Minstrel's Song is fun just for the large period ensemble alone

    Trick Or Treat is 23 mins. of atonal synth/orchestral/elec.guitar horror

    Vietnam War Stories is the atonal flipside of Bat 21, semi-musique concrete sound collages

    Invaders from Mars is the beautiful opening and closing flute melody, with the driving Rambo-esque("Betrayal") main title.

    Don't pass it up! Please!!!!

    Sean

    I won't! In fact, I just ordered it along with a few more the other day. However, as I told you before. My wallet isn't taking too kindly to my spending this month. It is literally, chasing me around my house, threating me about buying any more CD'. All that would be enough as it is. But doing so with a nut cracker is just too much!

    Regards,
    Sean Robert Abbey
