Just curious about these scores... found them in a used cd bin.

    Up Close and Personal
    The War

    Robert Folk:
    Trapped in Paradise

    Michael Kamen:

    It's Thomas Newman, get 'em.

Trapped in Paradise is pretty good. I just saw the movie recently, and liked it well enough. Folk always writes good themes.

Jack is way off the wall. There are a bunch of bells and whistles. (and no it isn't by Thomas Newman) It's basically a lot of wild kid music, but Kamen does put in some emotional moments and a gorgeous ending.

Used CD? For the finale, buy it.

Only one of those I know is UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL; I bought it used too, because I felt flush and it was cheap enough and Thomas Newman tends to be reliable. I wasn't disappointed, but not awed either. Some of it has a nice little mambo feel to it (including a couple of mambo cues from other sources); otherwise, typical Newman score.

I like The War. I have had my copy ever since it came out. Aside from containing some fairly decent songs, the score itself offers some above average cues, especially the first and last score tracks. They have that insatiable Southern touch; the one Thomas Newman is so well-known for (and uses in The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile.)
