have a chance to get a few CD and/ or LPs of music by Philip Sarde

I've heard good things about his music, and wondered what might be good to start off with.

Hei, Jar-Jar old pal! Philippe Sarde's a great composer, but unfortunately I have just two of his scores.

One's "Quest for Fire" and it's among my favorites. This score is realy outstanding with a primeval feeling, courtesy of the "Les Percussions de Strasbourg" & "The Ambrosian Singers" and some very feroucious cues. Very original and different from anything you've heard...

The other I have is "The Bear" which consists of two suites with about 20 minutes each. Beautiful, powerfull and sweeping. What else could someone expect from a movie score??

    Hugs,
    A.

    Very highly recommend:

    The Music Box
    La Fille de d'Artagnan
    Ghost Story
    Lord of the Flies
    Pirates
    Fort Saganne
as well as those Mr. Lux mentioned.

...though whether you can actually find copy of some of these is another question.

....and don't forget Sarde's beautiful music from polanski's TESS.

I only know his "Pirates", but that one surely rocks. One of the best "mysterious" themes ever!

Philippe Sarde is a very underappreaciated composer and one of my favorites. I'd recomend these scores if you can get em.

    Ennimes Intimes (Intimate Enemies)
    Max and Jeremie
    Eve of Destruction
The Manhattan Project (definetly one of his best and sadly unreleased on CD by Varese)
Tess (also sadly unreleased on CD)
    Ghost Story
    Quest for Fire
    Pirates
    The Bear

You didn't say which CDs/LPs you had a chance to get but it really doesn't matter since I've never heard a Sarde score I disliked except for LA VALISE.

    The real gems are:

    Tess (of course)
    Premiers Desires
    Le Train
    Choice of Arms
    La Pirate
Vincent, Francois, Paul et les Autres
    Le Choc
    Deux Hommes Dans La Ville
    C'est La Vie/La Baule-les-Pins
    Mille Millard de Dollars
    Les Choses de la Vie

Ghost Story is simply remarkable in terms of it's atmosphere and ambience....GET IT...it is a Varese album...

Lord of the Flies is an excellent score as well...and while I haven't heard Pirates! firsthand, I've been told from several sources that it is the one and only good thing about the film!

Don't understand why everybody hates "Pirates". It's so fun! Except for the ending of course, which is rather a let-down.

Philipe Sarde is one of my favourite composers. His ability to create a fresh sound to every movie he composes for makes him one of the most gifted composers in the history of film music.I'd recomend the following scores:
DEUX HOMMES DANS LA VILLE/LE SEINS DE GLACE
A great but very rare LP with the music for two French "noirs" with Delon.Melodic outfit and great(and unique) orchestrations for these two great films. The LP was released by the Italian PHOENIX label in 1000 copies.
    TESS
    Wonderfull romantic score.
    LES CHOSES DE LA VIE
You can easily find the CAM cd.It is a great melodic score. It was also released in Japan.Just forget the French or Italian LP.
VINCENT, FRANCOIS, PAUL ET LES AUTRES.
Paired with LE SEINS DE GLACE in the CAM label. The French LP is very rare.
    LE CHOC
One of his great scores!!!Only on LP(General Music)
    LE TRAIN
    Great!
