Ah! Now I see how it works!

    Just in today:

House Of Frankenstein (Hans Salter/ Paul Dessau: the Marco Polo reconstruction): I'm not really convinced that this is amongst the greatest music ever written for films, but sometimes I buy things just as an enjoyable souvenir of more innocent times. And this does look and sound like a real labour of love.

Forever Amber (David Raksin: Varese Fox Classics): This IS amongst the greatest music ever written for films! I got the old RCA Victor compilation of Raksin music a few months ago, and so adored the 25-minute suite on it that I just had to get this expanded original recording. Glorious!

    Rob Roy - Burwell
    Casper - Horner

I would have also bought about 6 others, BUT my bankcard was rejected at the counter.
But I doubt they'll go anywhere becasue no one from this area seems interested in scores at all.
They're all $11 too, which is top notch in my book.

Just a couple of new things this month:

Bond Back in Action--this is a great listen, even better than the last Silva Bond compilation disc.

Mrs. Winterbourne (Doyle)Picked this up for $4, cut-out. Really a beautiful little score.

    On the way (hopefully);

The Twilight Zone (Silva's 4-disc set)
    Humoresque (Waxman)
    Anna & the King (Herrmann)
    Patch of Blue (Goldsmith)

Yesterday I bought a DVD-ROM drive, and today I got my first DVD ("The Matrix"). I'm still stunned. I just can recommend you all to buy a DVD drive or player if you don't have one yet. WOW!

Gonna watch "The Matrix" again, this time with isolated score.

Timmer: I put a "?" after my Final Conflictcomment, so I'm not sure. But it's definitely one of his very best. Legend and STTMP are top-notch as well, of course. Still haven't heard Nimh.

Bruckner! Great. My favourite non-score composer. And I also love Sibelius' Finlandia. I only have an old mono recording on CD, but I recently found an mp3 file of a fantastic recording with fantastic sound quality. Unfortunately it doesn't say who recorded it, so I don't think I have a chance to track it down.

    Space 1999: Season One (2 CD's)
    Mission to Mars
    The Ninth Gate

Fortunately, all exceed expectation. Not wasting your money is perhaps one of the most satisfying of realizations. And if I took Goldsmith out of the equation, I'd have to say that Mission to Mars is the most satisfying soundtrack I've bought since Philipe Sarde's La Fille de D'Artagnan and, goodness, that was 5 years ago!
